Early life
Alexander was born in the South Bronx, New York City, to Julius and Mary Jenkins, and he cites his mother as the first one to introduce him to fashion.
When he first met Monique Pillard, president of Elite Model Management, he converted to modeling. Pillard was so impressed by his appearance that she hired him to her company, and he walked for designer Jean Paul Gaultier in New York City. Alexander is openly gay. Career
Alexander's career as a runway mentor began accidentally, and he would eventually be recognized for his abilities as a mentor. Since 1991, he has been instructing and casting. When he worked with supermodel Naomi Campbell and model Kimora Lee Simmons, he came to prominence in this field. He has also worked with models Nadja Auermann, Claudia Mason, and Julia Stegner.
After a modeling career in Tokyo, he eventually settled in Paris and since 1991 has been involved in casting and coaching models for well-known designers, including Hervé Léger, Lars Nilsson, Bill Blass, Valentino, John Galliano, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, and Nina Ricci.
