Career
Pootsmann appeared in the sixth season of Eesti otsib superstaari, an Estonian version of Pop Idol on TV3. He won the competition on May 31th, 2015, when his debut single "Torm" was announced. It reached its high point on the Estonian Airplay Chart, at number seven. "Aga Siis" was released by his artist on November 15, 2015, debuting at number one in the Estonian Airplay Chart. He launched his debut self-titled extended play on November 20, 2015.
Pootsmann was named one of the candidates in the Estonian national selection, Eesti Laul 2016, for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Pootsmann performed his song "Play" on the second semi-final of the Estonian Television studios in Tallinn on February 20, 2016, and he advanced to the final. The final took place on March 5th in Tallinn, hosted by Ott Sepp and Märt Avandi. With 32,394 televotes, he reached the Super Final and won the national selection.
Estonia was selected into the first semi-finals at the Eurovision Song Contest. Pootsmann finished last (18th), Estonia's lowest finish to date in the competition, and failed to progress to the final.
Pootsmann's song "Magus Melanhoolia" placed third in the Superfinal at Eesti Laul, Estonia's national selection final, in 2021.
