DJ Negro, a record producer who arranged for her to appear with a group called The Noise at a local club of the same name, met in San Juan.
She performed her first song, "Somos Raperos Perpetentes," (We are Rappers, Not Delinquents).
Due to their violent and specifically sexual lyrics, the Noise attracted a lot of attention.
Queen went solo in 1996 and released her debut studio album En Mi Imperio (In My Empire), which was quickly picked up by Sony Discos in 1997 for release. The Original Rude Girl, her second studio album for Sony's label, which culminated in the hit song "In the Zone," was released later.

Early life
Ivy Queen was born in Aguasco, Puerto Rico. The Queen's parents immigrated to New York, where she was born. She did not complete high school, ending up in the eleventh grade in the mainland United States, and studied music at the New Jersey School of Performing Arts.
Personal life
The Ivy Queen married fellow reggaeton artist Omar Navarro, also known by his stage name Gran Omar. In 2005, they were divorced. Omar was never found in the act of adultery, according to the queen, who said that if she had, she would have been in La Vega Alta—a women's jail in Puerto Rico. Omar's suspected mistress had not been physically assaulted, according to her. She said they had not lived together for two months, blaming her husband's "extensive travels and his work as a producer" as the reasons for her husband's divorce. Omar said the queen had tricked him and that she owes him money from the sales and production of the album Cosa Nostra: Hip-Hop, which they displayed together due to their obligations and univision contracts. Jorge Guadalupe, the Queen's boss, had ordered Omar to take legal action. Guadalupe said Omar was "someone who misses the money and the high life" he had when he was married to Queen Omar. However, there was no court action taken. Omar appeared on television station Telefutura's program Escándalo TV, accusing the Queen of being unfaithful in their marriage. The queen, on the other hand, denied the allegations.
From mid-2006 to the end of 2007, the Queen was in a contract with DJ Urba. It was rumored that the two were in a friendship together in 2010 after Queen invited American actor Vin Diesel to attend 2010 Premios Juventud. Escándalo TV said that there was no romance between them and that they were just good friends.
In her personal life, Ivy Queen has said she identifies with "Menor Que Yo," a song in which she was "talking about reality when she wrote it." The song, she said, is about what happens to a lot of people. "When I wrote it, I was writing about reality." A lot of women are victims of a lot of things. I believe there is no age limit for two people who love each other. It's mostly about how people react when they see a mature woman with a younger man. It's for money, according to the children. They had no idea that chemistry had a relationship. "Sentimientos" was the song that best portrayed her at the time, she continued: "If you think you can only conquer me if you're wealthy, wealthy, and have an expensive car, you're wrong," she said later.
The Queen does not drink alcohol. She said that although she dropped high school after the fourth year (eleventh grade), she graduated from the Academy "Street" with a Bachelor of Life and Honors. She said her vocabulary is "that of the street" and that if she could do something other than singing, she would go to college.
In late 2012, Queen Xavier Sánchez, a Puerto Rican choreographer, married her. In June 2013, she revealed that the couple was expecting their first child. The queen adopted two Latino children before becoming naturally pregnant. At the Calibash 2013 concert, she revealed her baby bump, which was headlined by R&B singer Chris Brown. In November 2013, the baby was born in November 2013. The Queen's father died of pulmonary cancer in June 2016.
Musical career
When Ivy Queen was 18, she moved to San Juan, where she encountered rapper and producer DJ Negro. At the invitation of DJ Negro, Queen 1995, she became the Noise, an all-male Puerto Rican group. The group became a member of the emerging reggaeton movement. DJ Negro began making a line of CDs based on the Noise. "Somos Raperos Perpeto No Delincuentes" was Ivy Queen's first appearance on the fifth installment of the CD series. She grew sick of reggaeton's violent and sexual themes and wanted to write about a variety of topics.
DJ Negro persuaded Queen to go solo, and En Mi Imperio, her first solo album on Sony Discos, starred hit single "Como Mujer"—showing the hit single "Como Mujer"—in 1997. Queen debuts her second album, The Original Rude Girl, which features Don Chezina, Alex D'Castro, and Domingo Quiote, and she appeared on Wyclef Jean's debut single "In the Zone" in 1998. The album is bilingual and features hip hop music, a departure from the reggaeton's debut album. The Original Rude Girl was commercially unprofitable, but "In The Zone" debuted at number 38 on the Billboard Rhythmic Top 40, but "In the Zone" rose to number 38.
Sony dropped Queen in 1999 after a lack of commercial success with her first two studio albums, and she took a break from her musical career. Queen's music appeared on reggaeton compilation albums in 2001 and 2002, including hits like "Quiero Bailar" from The Majestic 2 and "Quiero Saber" from Kilates, which culminated in hits such as "Quiero Bailar" and "Quiero Saber." "Quiero Bailar" was Ivy Queen's first female role in a trend that [and primarily was led by men] with a strong vocabulary and a "doggiestyle dance." The Ivy Queen reconstructed herself as reggaeton's no-nonsense female conscience. (Quiero Baliar, her anthem, warned her dance partner not to misinterpret those steps)" Gran Omar, the Queen and her then-husband, have signed with Real Music, a Miami-based company founded by Jorge Guadalupe and Anthony Pérez in 2003. They appeared on the label's first album, Jams Vol. 1. Queen appeared and performed on the reggaeton television show "The Roof," which featured urban music and lifestyle, and was filmed by Pérez.
Diva, Ivy Queen's third studio album, was released in 2003. "Quiero Bailar" was one of many hit singles that were released. The album is believed to have been crucial in exposing reggaeton to a broader audience in 2004. Ivy Queen's platinum edition of Diva debuted in 2004 after the album's success, which was designated platinum by the RIAA. At the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Awards, the platinum version was selected for "Reggaeton Album of the Year." "Quiero Bailar," the album's lead single, became the first Spanish-language track to reach the top 40 chart of Miami's WPOW, an American radio station that does not normally play Spanish music.
Real, Queen's fourth studio album, was supposed to be her first full-length English language album after she received contract letters from a variety of record labels, including Sony. The queen said it was a good chance to reach other markets, especially the English rap industry. Sony's bid to record an English-language album came after they discovered that her previous Sony albums were being played in London, owing to the popularity of Diva. Fat Joe, La India, Héctor Delgado, and Getto & Gastam were among the album's collaborations. Swizz Beatz, an American hip-hop musician, produced the song "Soldados." The album was released on November 16, 2004, and it inspired the Top ten single "Dile" that was nominated for "Tropical Airplay Track of the Year, Female."
Ivy Queen co-founder José Guadalupe in 2005 to form the record label Filtro Music. Univision Records signed Filtro Musik to market Ivy Queen's fifth studio album Flashback (2005) later this year. This ensured that the album was seen in Latin and mainstream markets that would not normally carry Latin merchandise. The first compilation album of the Queen, consisting of songs from Diva and Real, was released the same year. She released Flashback, which featured the singles "Cuéntale," "Libertad," and "Te He Querido, Te He Llorado" on October 29, 2005. Flashback was nominated for "Reggaeton Album of the Year" at the 2006 Billboard Latin Music Awards for the second year in a row. Ivy Queen and Gran Omar released the reggaeton and hip hop compilation album Cosa Nostra: Hip Hop the following year. She appeared on the Spanish-language version of the Star-Spangled Banner "Nuestro Himno" later in the series. She then received the first Premio Juventud "Diva Award," which praised the Queen for her musical career.
Sentimiento, Ivy Queen's sixth studio album, was released in April 2007. After Cosa Nostra's commercial demise, she began working on the album in 2006. Sentimiento uses "solo turns" rather than duets with guest artists as part of her reggaetón. Divino's "Pobre Corazón" by Divino, "Mana Al Despertar" by Baby Rasta and Noriega, and "Mana" by Baby Rasta and Noriega's "Mana Al Despertar" feature the Queen's vocals on one of his solo albums. She said she wanted to give reggaetón a 180-degree twist. "Anyone think reggaetón is just good rhythms to dance to," she said. And they forget that there are song-writers and composers who suffer and aspire in love, as well as other people... Love is what makes us write, rather than dying. We would have nothing if we did not have love. The album produced "Que Lloren" and the moderately popular singles "En Que Fallamos" and "Sentimientos." Calle 13 received the Best Urban Music Album award for their album Residente o Visitante Queen's Sentimiento, which was nominated in the same category at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2007.
"Las Vienen Conmigo," Calle 13's album "Los de Atrás Vienen Conmigo" contained a song titled "Que Lloren" which mocked Queen and begged her to "cut herself with a razor." "I'm the queen of this style, with male rappers such as Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel, and Tego Calderón who adored me a lot for an idiot to have my name in his mouth," she said. After Calle 13 had received various awards in the urban music category, Queen Diana called the pair to inform them that she knew nothing about them publicly. Despite a slew of awards and nominations, only Calle 13 was honoured, with a letter describing "they dedicated the night to Calle 13." The Queen is a hypocrite, according to the pair.

Profit sharing in tours, sponsorships, and merchandising is included in the agreement, which has been described as a 360 deal. In 2008, Univision Records, a Machete-owned company, was purchased by Universal Music Latin Entertainment. In a press release, Walter Kolm, president of Universal Music Latino and Machete, said, "I]t's a privilege to have Ivy Queen as part of our cultural roster."
