Early years
Miranda Carrero (birth name: Ismael Miranda Carrero) was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, and grew up in New York City's East Village on East 13th Street. As a child, he aspired to be a guitarist. By the time he was eleven years old, his musical aptitude led him to the formation of two separate youth clubs, "The 4J's and Little Junior" and "The Class Mates." He sang and played conga for the band, and the pair appeared on Jerry Lewis' Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. Miranda also grew up and performed in his first bands with Jazz percussionist Orlando "Q" Rodriguez and pianist Mark Dimond.
