Career

Wright founded and served as editor-in-chief of a street art journal from 2002, Overspray, which was on display until 2009.

Wright was a staff writer at The New York Times from 2010 to 2012, and he had two blogs called Notes From The Underground, which iO reviewed underground performances—and The Lowdown.

Darling Days, A Memoir, Wright's first book, was published on September 27, 2016, an imprint of Harper Collins.

Prestel's second book, Self Evident Truths: 10,000 Portraits of Queer America, was published on September 15, 2020.

Clarkson Potter's third book, Oasis: Modern Desert Homes Around The World, was published in November, 2020.

Wright spoke at TEDxWomen in Washington, DC, in 2012, discussing sexuality and gender as a continuum. The interview has been watched more than three billion times.

Wright appeared in many independent films, including in a 2004 appearance as a McDonald's employee in Sex and the City, and after an over ten-year absence, he appeared in the independent film Holy New York (2020).

In 2016, Wright co-hosted MTV's Suspect with Nev Schulman.

Wright appeared on Episode 6 of MTV's Catfish: The TV Show in 2017.

Wright produced and hosted The Ballad Of Billy Balls, a true crime investigation into the murder of his mother's lover.
