Career
As a young child, Kamprad began to grow a business. At the age of five, he began selling matches. He began riding his bicycle further afield to peddle to neighbors when he was seven years old. He discovered that he could buy matches in bulk in Stockholm, sell them at a low price, and still make a good profit. He went from matches to selling fish, Christmas tree decorations, seeds, and then ballpoint pens and pencils. When Kamprad was 17, his father gave him a cash reward for his success in his studies.
Ingvar studied at the Gothenburg Handelsinstitut, which now belongs to Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet, from 1943 to 1945. Kamprad's uncle Ernst's kitchen table established IKEA in 1943, when he was 17 years old. Kamprad's portfolio expanded in 1948, adding furniture. His company was mainly mail order.
