Huma Qureshi Career

Acting career

She travelled to Mumbai in 2008 to audition for film roles, auditioning for a film, Junction, which was never made: "I never thought of going to Mumbai or being an actress." But when my friend called me for an audition for a film called Junction, it got me to thinking. The film, sadly, was never produced." Quentin Unilever has been in a two-year deal with Hindustan Unilever, enabling them to appear in their television advertisements. She promoted a variety of products, including Samsung Mobile (with Aamir Khan), Nerolac (with Shah Rukh Khan), Vita Marie, Saffola oil, Mederma cream, and Pears soap. Director Anurag Kashyap was captivated by her acting skills and promised to use her in a film during a shoot for a Samsung Mobile commercial. "I didn't believe him then," Quentin said. There are some of such stories in this industry, so I wasn't holding my breath." Kashyap kept his promise, committing her to a three-film contract with his company Anurag Kashyap Films.

After surviving an audition out of 700 applicants, Quenti was set to make her film debut with Billa II, a Tamil gangster-thriller directed and produced by Chakri Toleti. Although Quentin is the female lead, the project was postponed until Quentin is able to fulfill other commitments. When asked whether she had any regrets, she replied, "I have no regrets." I wish it had worked out, but it didn't. I am not someone who sits and rants over things. I was also auditioned for several other south films, but the roles weren't what I was looking for."

Qureshi made her debut in Anurag Kashyap's critically acclaimed two-part crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), where Qureshi was cast as the sympathetic wife of a criminal (played by Nawazuddin Sidddiqui). "Mohsina tries to imitate everything she sees on the big screen in her own little ways," she described her role as a small-town airhead who believes she is the prettiest girl in the village. Bollywood has influenced her heavily. Both the film and Qureshi premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and critics applauded it. Govind Nihalani compared the actress to Smita Patil: "an earthiness, sincerity, vigour, and warmth of personality," the actress said, besides the fact that she was a fine and instinctive actress. Huma is a good enough actress on her own, someone who can distinguish herself and hold her own." "Huma Qureshi, who appears much later in the film, is absolutely brilliant," Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama said. "When it comes to appearances, [Huma] is different from the usual Bollywood actors," the Express Tribune said. Quentin was ranked third, the highest female position on Rediff.com's annual list of "Bollywood's Top Ten Debutants" (both male and female). Following the success of the first film, she reprised her role as Mohsina in the second installment of the Gangs of Wasseypur story, Gangs of Wasseypur, Part 2. With the prequel, the film premiered in the Cannes Film Festival's Fortnight. It drew wide critical acclaim, and her appearance in it received commendations. "Huma Qureshi, with her gaudy clothes, designer sun-glasses, and extraordinary beauty, is the hottest cheez in Wasseypur," Madhureeta Mukherjee of The Times of India said. Taran Adarsh found her "simply fantastic" when she lends her assistance as a 'prouder' better-half of a wealthy man's "best-half's even in his worst crimes. At several award ceremonies (including the Filmfare Award), both films received her Best Female Debut and Best Supporting Actress nominations. Gangs of Wasseypur in Quentin Quoshi's words were described as a "life-changing film."

Quarshi completed her three-film contract with Anurag Kashyap Films by appearing in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, a romantic comedy that focuses on a hunt for an ancient family dish; Chicken Khurana. Harman, actress Kunal Kapoor's love interest), was directed by Sameer Sharma. The film was a huge success financially, and Rediff.com said that "Huma Quashi looks just right for the role, and she gives a stunning performance." The Daily News and Analysis's Aniruddha Guha said, "[Queshi], on the other hand, is charming as Harman, the fiery Punjabi." In a role that has echoes of her character in Gangs of Wasseypur, her refreshingly natural acting style shines once more. However, Anupama Chopra found her appearance to be "a little bland."

Quraan Hashmi, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Kalki Koechlin were all cast as witches in the 2013 film Ek Thi Daayan. The film was based on 'Mobius Trips', a short story written by Konkona Sen Sharma's father, and dealt with witchcraft's themes. Critics gave it mixed feedback, but it turned out to be a profitable venture at the box office. Quéshi's appearances were also well-received. The Indian Express said, "Quebes has only good times, but makes the majority of them," Koimoi noted, "Queshi has a remarkably pleasant and confident screen presence." Raja Sen particularly praised the female cast and wrote, "The three leading ladies are smashing in their roles." Each of them has a memorable personality, and each deserves a large hand." The President of India's highest film award ceremony was held in Ek Thi Daayan, Qué, along with R. Madhavan, an event held by the Directorate of Film Festivals to honor the Best Films of the year (then 2012) in the Indian cinema. During Pranab Mukherjee's presidency, the ceremony was held at the Vigyan Bhavan on May 3rd.

Quayap's titular character appeared in the short film Sujata, which was released as one of the Shorts segment in Shorts, an Anurag Kashyap anthology film segment. She portrayed her eponymous lead as a teenage girl who is trying to get out of her tormenting cousin brother's clutches (played by Satya Anand). The film was screened at the Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles before its launch and receiving mostly favorable feedback, and Quentin's appearance earned her a Special Mention Award at the festival. Irfan Khan, Arjun Rampal, Rishi Kapoor, and Shruti Haasan appeared in the underworld drama D-Day, which culminated in her debut as Zoya Rehman, an explosive R.A.W agent with an ensemble cast. Nikkhil Advani, the script writer, gave Quarkhil Advani the freedom to play either Suraiya (later played by Hassan) or Zoya; she chose Zoya to broaden her horizons as an actress. Quentin's portrayal was a failure at the box office and received mixed feedback from critics, but Subhash K. Jha said that Quranshi's acting is "effortlessly appealing and effective."

Quoshi appeared in Abhishek Chaubey's black comedy Dedh Ishqiya (2014), a sequel to the 2010 film Ishqiya starring Madhuri Dixit, Arshad Warsi, and Naseeruddin Shah. Dedh Ishqiya was a commercial success, earning 270 million (US$4.1 million) in India and abroad, and Qureshi was lauded for her portrayal of a promiscuous companion of a con woman (played by Dixit). Raja Sen said in a 5-star review that "Qureshi uses her fiercely intelligent eyes to great advantage," while Mohar Basu agreed, saying that "Huma Qureshi is brilliant and optimistic." "The actress has the vivacious energy that reveals her ability." Rochak Kohli's music video "Mitti Di Khusboo" with Ayushmann Khurrana was Quoshi's last performance of the year in 2014. "The chemistry between Ayushmann and Huma on film has the raw flavor of the countryside romance," India Today reported.

Quintet and Nawazuddin Sidddiqui appeared in Sriram Raghavan's crime thriller Badlapur the following year, as the protagonists. Raja Sen praised her acting and wrote that she "is hauntingly good as a call girl." Quentin was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award, and the film was a commercial hit. Umesh Kulkarni's Highway film Highway marked her debut in Marathi cinema. It received mixed critiques from critics and was found to be a moderate box office success. She appeared in the X: Past Is Present, the same year, in the same year. Qureshi appeared in "Knot," a film critic Raja Sen's film critic, where she appeared alongside Anshuman Jha. Quentin Quéshi's debut in Malayalam cinema with White was released in 2016. She appeared in two roles in Mammootty's film. Critics generally dismissed the film's general assessment.

Jolly LLB 2, where she appeared alongside Akshay Kumar, was Quentshi's first release of 2017. The film, which was a sequel to Jolly LLB's 2013, received mixed critiques from critics and was a box office hit. Gurinder Chadha's British-Indian historical drama Viceroy's House was her next film. The film, which was shot at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival in 1947, follows Viceroy's House during the partition of India. She then appeared in Prawaal Raman's horror film Dobaara: See Your Evil (2017), a sequel to Mike Flanagan's Hollywood film Oculus (2013). Flanagan also served as the film's executive producer. In the Tamil language film Kaala, Quinikanth appeared opposite Rajinikanth. It was announced on June 7, 2018. In 2018, she became the judge of India's Best Dramebaaz.

Quila, based on the novel of the same name, was played by Quentin Quirk in 2019. The series was directed by Deepa Mehta, Shanker Raman, and Pawan Kumar, and received mainly critical feedback from critics, with particular praise for Quinteshi's performance. "Queenshi's on-screen presence is as real as it is on television," Hiba Bego of The Quint said. She appeared in the 2021 web series Maharani, in which she played Rani Bharti, which was also received high praise by critics, and for that she received the Filmfare OTT award. Later this year, the year will be officially recognized. She made her Hollywood debut in completing an American film Army of the Dead. In Zee Cafe, she has also returned to television and hosted the reality show Fit Fab Feast. She appeared in Akshay Kumar's film Bell Bottom and made her second Tamil film Valimai.

Mithya, the British series Cheat's remake, was released in 2022. In 2022, she will appear in Monica, O My Darling, and DoubleXL. In April 2022, Qureshi partnered with actor Tarla Dalal to star in her biopic. Ronnie Screwvala, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and Nitesh Tiwari are among the film's directors, directed by Piyush Gupta.
