Hudson Mohawke Career

Life and career

Birchard is the son of actor and singer Paul Birchard.

Birchard (under the name DJ Itchy) was the youngest UK DMC finalist at the age of 15. His first gigs as a club DJ were with Glasgow University's Suburban Radio, where he first appeared on the culture city kids show and later as part of other shows such as Turntable Science with Pro Vinylist Karim and Cloudo's Happy Hardcore, which debuted under DJ Mayhem's name. Birchard formed the Lucky Me group with childhood friends during this time. Since finding the name engraved on a statue in his hallway, he adopted the stage name "Hudson Mohawke." Birchard applied to the Red Bull Music Academy in 2007 and was invited to attend the event in Toronto, where he first spoke with Warp Records' Steve Beckett and announced his signing of Hudson Mohawke two years later.

Hudson Mohawke formed Heralds of Change with Mike Slott in 2006, Sittin' on the Side (2006), Puzzles (2007), and Secrets (2007) on All City Records in addition to his solo career. Hudson Mo was also a DJ/Producer for the now defunct hip hop group Surface Emp, as well as MC's Dom Sum and occasional 2 Can Dan. On Far Cut Records, Surface Empire released the LuckyMe EP in 2005.

Despite a poor track record on official releases, Hudson Mohawke signed to Warp Records in 2009; in fact, the majority of his tracks and DJ mixes were distributed on the internet, as well as the 2006 mixtape Hudson's Heeters Vol. 1. "Spotted" was the Rush Hour beat compilation, his first official announcement to receive major notice, according to Beat Dimensions Vol 1.

In 2008 his 12" EP Ooops!

LuckyMe/Wireblock became a underground sensation, particularly after word of his recording deal with Warp spread. Hudson Mohawke's first studio album, Butter, was released in 2009. He contributed to the Warp20 (Recreated) collection in that year, a cover of a Jimi Tenor song titled "Paint the Stars" (Recreated). He would follow several EPs, including 2011's Satin Panthers. At Club Ralph Studios in London, he made his debut EP for British band Egyptian Hip Hop, which was released in August 2010. In Sleeping Dogs and Dirt 3, one of his songs, "100hm" has been featured as a track on the video game Grand Theft Auto V, while "Fuse" was included in "Fuse."

During Lunice's first LuckyMe Records tour of North America in 2008, Birchard met Canadian producer Lunice, with Hudson Mohawke performing at the Pop Montreal festival and Lunice supporting. The pair's collaborative project TNGHT debuted on July 23, 2012, after a good showing headlining Warp Records' 2012 SXSW showcase, TNGHT's TNGHT EP, which was released via Warp X LuckyMe. TNGHT has appeared at various venues around the world, including The Opera House, Coachella's music festival, and Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg, which featured rapper/producer Kanye West's appearance during a remix of West's "Cold."

Hudson Mohawke began a series of collaborations with Kanye West in 2012, resulting in production credits on the GOOD Music label's album Cruel Summer. Mohawke had officially signed as a producer with GOOD Music on January 17, 2013, although Warp and LuckyMe as a recording artist, however, it wasn't confirmed as a performer. On December 27, 2013, TNGHT announced their hiatus. In addition to collaborating with various other hip hop and pop artists, including Drake, Pusha T, and Future, Mohawke co-produced two tracks on West's 2013 album Yeezus ("I Am a God" and "Blood on the Leaves") and contributed to West's 2016 sequel The Life of Pablo. Lantern is his second studio album by the artist in 2015. He co-produced with singer Anohni on her 2016 album Hopelessness. Mohawke revealed on Twitter on October 26, 2016 that he was composing the original soundtrack for the 2016 video game Watch Dogs 2 titled "Ded Sec" and that Warp Records would release it on November 11, 2016.

Birchard appeared in Twin Peaks: The Return of a Roadhouse in 2017. He performed in Twin Peaks: The Return of a Roadhouse in 2017.
