Hi-Tek Career

Career

Hi-Tek started his hop career with Mood and had a regional success with "Hustle on the Side." The song was made for Mood's album Doom, which also appeared on Tumbl's site Talib Kweli. Hi-Tek continued to produce the bulk of Talib Kweli and Mos Def's Black Star (1998). Tek and Kweli (under the banner Reflection Eternal) released Train of Thought (1996) on Rawkus Records, with raps by Kweli and beats by Hi-Tek. It had moderate success on radio with the singles "The Blast" and "Move Somethin." On May 18, 2010, Reflection Eternal released Revolutions Per Minute, a follow-up album.

Hi-Tek started working on a number of the labels' projects, including the famous Soundbombing series; a three-record collection of mostly Rawkus-based artists; and a two-record compilation of mostly Rawkus-based artists. Hi-Teknology, his solo album, was released on Rawkus in 2001. Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Vinia Mojica, Buckshot, and others were among the album's highlights, with all manufacturing handled by Hi-Tek. "Round and Round" with Cincinnati singer Jonell earned critical acclaim and spawned a minor hit, sparking a small hit.

Hi-Tek is a staff producer for Aftermath Entertainment and its subsidiaries, as well as former employees like Kweli and Mos Def. He has also recorded songs for Dion Jenkins, an R&B singer who has signed to Aftermath. Hi-Teknology 2 was released on Babygrande in 2006 and Koch Entertainment sold Hi-Teknology 2 on Babygrande and Koch Entertainment. Hi-Teknology 3: Underground, the producer's third film, was released on December 11, 2007.

Hi-Tek, the production staff of his record label It's A Wonderful World Music Group, announced Hi-Tek as the newest member of The Soul Council in November 2015.
