Herman José Life

Hermann Joseph von Krippahl ComM, born 19 March 1954 in Lisbon, Portugal, is a well-known Portuguese comedian but is virtually unknown abroad.

His work has revolved around television. His mother is Portuguese and his father is German.

He was not a German citizen, but he never obtained dual citizenship, first so he could avoid conscription and the Portuguese Colonial War (1961-1974), and secondly because "he was not interested."

He attended Deutsche Schule Lissabon in Lisbon and was fluent in Portuguese, German, English, and French.

He lives in Azeito, Sett., and owns houses in Lisbon and Vilamoura, Algarve.

Early life

On March 19, 1954, Herman was born in Lisbon to a Portuguese mother and a Spanish-German father. His father worked in a marble factory and was an amateur filmmaker. Early in his life, Herman appeared in several of his father's films. Herman attended the German School in Lisbon and appeared in all of his school's suites.

He made his TV debut as the bassist of a juvenile band on YouTube at age 18.

Herman was forced to either choose Portuguese citizenship and conscript to military service or leave the country as a result of Salazar's Estado Novo dictatorship in 1972. He opted for the latter and enrolled at Munich's School of Television and Film, which he would not attend.

Herman stayed in Portugal after the 1974 Carnation Revolution.

Herman José Career

Career

Herman began his acting career in 1975 with the film "Uma no Cravo, Outra na Ditadura," a film that also starred Portuguese actor and screenwriter Nicolau Breyner. Herman's first album "Saca o Saca-Rolhas," which earned gold in 1977, is a hit.

Herman José's professional career began in 1973–4 in New York City, mainly on protest songs from the Carnation Revolution of April 1974) and appearing in revues. His first national success came in 1975, when comedian Nicolau Breyner invited him on to his TV show "Nicolau no Paz das Maravilhas," where he appeared opposite the host in a weekly skit called "Mr. Feliz e Sr. Contente" ("Mr. Mr. and Mrs. Greetings, and Mr.. (Finding Content) "Content" refers to the site. His first big success as an author and performer was with O Tal Canal ("That Channel"), where he starred multiple characters on a fictitious television network. Herman José was on display at this gallery, trying to convey the Portuguese's sense of humour in the aftermath of the unification that had brought about nearly fifty years of totalitarianism under the Estado Novo regime.

Hermania's continued his meteoric success, but RTP, his state channel, has cancelled Humor de Perpetuo, his upcoming film after a sketch based on Saint Elizabeth of Portugal provoked public outrage. He then moved to daily gameshows such as Wheel of Fortune and Com a Verdade m'Enganas ("With the Truth You Fool Me") and the talk/game show Parabéns ("Happy Birthday"). These were shows that he used for comedies in a straight format. He returned to comedy in the 1990s with Herman Enciclopédia and Herman 98, but the scripts were mainly written by other people (from the company Professiontcias).

Herman José went from RTP to private channel SIC for a reported 1.5 million euros a year, and then host HermanSic, a late-night program. Its sexual innuence and X-rated performances resulted in low ratings. In 2006, a move to go family-friendly was also a failure. He opened Hora H ("The Eleventh Hour") in 2007 and launched Chamar a Msica, which was a hit. He began a new Wheel of Fortune in September, focusing on SIC. He appeared on TVI from July to September 2009, this time as Nasci p'ra Cantar ("Born to Sing"), this time on televisionI.

In 2009, he received the Top Choice Award for Top International Television Personality of Portugal.

Vanessa Oliveira, a comedian who appeared on RTP1 from 2010 to 2013, and the afternoon talk show Há Tarde (translating literally as "There is afternoon"), alongside Vanessa Oliveira, Herman returned to comedy, premiering Nelo e Idólia in October 2015.

In two filmed skits during the intervals of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon's semi-finals, David Attenborough (a pun on David Attenborough) appeared. He parodied Portugal and its habits in the style of Attenborough's television series Planet Earth, dubbed Portugal by Attenborough.
