Heo Young-ji (born August 30, 1994) referred to as Youngji in South Korea, is a South Korean singer and television presenter.

She is best known as a member of the girl group Kara after winning the TV show Kara Project in 2014, which saw her become the youngest participant of the group.

Heo's first single, "Memory Clock," was released in August 2017.

Career

Heo studied at the School of Performing Arts in Seoul. She worked as a trainee at Core Contents Media with T-ara's ex-member Areum. She was due to debut in a new girl group but she was turned away before the girl group debuted. She began as a KeyEast apprentice before becoming a DSP Media trainee.

DSP Media launched the Kara Project in May 2014, after former Kara members Nicole Jung and Kang Ji-young left the company, and the group's new recruit, Darg Ji-young, became the group's first member. Despite missing two live performances due to a leg injury from training, she drew admiration from viewers and topped the polls.

Live voting began on July 1 at 6:45 p.m. (KST). Hur Young-ji was crowned the winner with a total score of 49,591. She gave a winning speech in which she said she'll continue to work as a new Karanite.

Heo was one of the first viewers of the show, Roommate, in September 2014. She was known for her muted laughter, and it was discovered on the Christmas special of Roommate that Heo's family members had similar laughing habits as well. She said in the interview as a preview of being one of Roommate's new cast members, that many people told her to cover her mouth when laughing, but it was much more fun to laugh without covering her mouth.

When Goo Hara appeared on Episode 9 of Roommate, she said she wanted Heo to be chosen as a member of Kara because she has charms that the current members don't have and Kara feels more youthful with her.

Heo will appear in MBN Every1's season 2 as a member of a girl group, as well as Orange Caramel's Lizzy, G.NA, 4minute's So-hyun. Cham So Nyeo was a member of the Cham So Nyeo family. On February 17, the group's first song teaser "Magic Words)" debuted on February 17, followed by the full song and music video three days later.

Gyuri, Seungyeon, and Hara's resignation from the company due to labour terms, which was announced on January 15, 2016. Heo also confirmed that she would continue her musical career as a solo artist.

Heo was planning her solo debut in August on August 2, 2017, according to DSP Media. Memory Clock was her first single released on August 25.

MCC Entertainment's news article announced that she would be on the second song of project 'With dogs' on December 15, 2017.' Longing was released on the same day as the album.

Heo renewed her DSP Media contract in August 2021.
