Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill (born 5 May 1983) is a British actor.
He began his career in the film adaptations of The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) and I Capture the Castle (2004).
He appeared in several television series, including BBC's The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, ITV's Midsomer Murders, and Showtime's The Tudors.
He has since appeared in many major Hollywood films, including Tristan & Isolde (2006), Stardust (2007), Blood Creek (2009), and Immortals (2011). Early life
Cavill was born on May 5, 1983, the fourth of five boys in a Roman Catholic family at Saint Helier, Jersey, in the Channel Islands. Marianne Dalgliesh, his mother, was a secretary in a bank. She was born in Jersey and is of Scottish, English, and Irish descent. Colin Cavill, his father, was born in Chester, England, and was a stockbroker. He was educated at St Michael's Preparatory School in Saint Saviour, Jersey, before attending Stowe School in Stowe, Buckinghamshire. Russell Crowe, a 16-year-old Cavill, was shooting on location at Stowe in 2000 while playing rugby, met him in a film Proof of Life. The actor gave some acting tips and then delivered a box to his boarding school later. Later on Man of Steel, the two actors appeared together.

Career
Cavill began his film career by appearing in Laguna (2001) and Kevin Reynolds' version of The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). He continued with appearances in BBC's The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2002), the television film Goodbye, Mr. Chips (2002), and the television series Midsomer Murders (2003). He was instrumental in I Capture the Castle in 2003, then Hellraiser: Hellfire (2005), Red Riding Hood (2006), and Tristan & Isolde (2006). In Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Stardust (2007), he had a minor part.
Cavill played a key role in Showtime's television series The Tudors, as Charles Brandon, the 1st Duke of Suffolk. In McG's 2004 film, Superman: Flyby, Cavill was supposed to play Superman. McG pulled out of the project and direction after director Bryan Singer, who recast Brandon Routh as the lead in Superman Returns, took over the initiative and direction. Cavill was the final contender for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale in 2005.
