Early life
MacArthur was born in Chicago to Bruce and Shelley MacArthur. William F. Farley, a businessman, is his stepfather. Scott MacArthur, a fellow actor and writer, is his younger brother.
MacArthur graduated from Deerfield Academy and obtained a B.A. Bowdoin College, Maine, where he was quarterback on the football team, was in government in Brunswick, Maine. He has worked at the Groundlings Theater Company and the Atlantic Theater Company.
Personal life
MacArthur's first name was in honor of his uncle, actress Helen Hayes, who was married to Charles MacArthur and his grandfather Alexander MacArthur's brother.
In December 2007, MacArthur became engaged to Heroes actress Ali Larter, his girlfriend of three years. MacArthur married Larter in a small ceremony at his parents' house in Kennebunk, Maine, on August 1, 2009. The couple had expected their first child on July 20, 2010. Theodore Hayes McArthur, a son of Larter and MacArthur, was born on December 20th, 2010; and Vivienne Margaret was born on January 15th, 2015. Both Jackpot and Ella are also available to the couple.
Acting career
At the 2003 Rebels of Comedy Exhibition, MacArthur took first place. He has appeared on television shows such as Mad TV, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, Pushing Daisies, and Medium.
MacArthur co-wrote, produced, and starred in The Adventures of Big Handsome Guy and His Little Friend, a 16-minute short film starring Jason Winer. In 2006, the short was released as a pilot for television. After the break-up, Larry's wife was also a waiter in the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where most prefer Larry's wife over him. MacArthur appeared in National Lampoon's Homo Erectus in 2007 and also appeared in a comedic supporting role in the Disney film The Game Plan. He appeared in supporting roles in the 2010 films She's Out of My League and Life as We Know It alongside recurring roles on television shows How I Met Your Mother and Worst Week.
MacArthur will appear in the television series Perfect Couples, which was announced in May. In the second half of the 2010–2011 TV season, the half-hour romantic comedy premiered. In May 2011, the program was cancelled.
MacArthur appeared in several episodes of Whitney, as well as Go On and the Broken Lizard film The Babymakers.
