Harry Redknapp Career

Club career

Redknapp played as a midfielder during his playing career. He began his career with Tottenham Hotspur, playing for the youth team until he was 15 years old when he was transferred to West Ham United. He made seven appearances and scored one goal for West Ham's first team in the 1965–66 season. In a 1–1 draw at home to Sunderland on August 23, 1965, he made his West Ham debut. In a 4–1 away victory over Tottenham on 8 April 1966, his first goal was scored.

Redknapp got off to a good start in 1966-1967, scoring his second goal for the club against West Bromwich Albion. During his second season, Redknapp made 12 appearances in the league, scoring once. He made 28 appearances and scored twice in the first two games over Burnley on August 21, 1967, and the second in a 5–1 away victory over Sunderland on September 6, 1967.

Redknapp made 42 appearances and scored three times in the league during the 1968-1969 season, with 36 appearances in the FA Cup (along with two goals), three in the FA Cup and three in the League Cup (along with one goal). In a 4–0 victory over West Brom on August 31, 1968, his first league goal of the season was achieved, while the next was a match against Bolton Wanderers, which West Ham defeated 4–0. In a 2–0 away loss at Leeds United on October 12, 1968, Redknapp was sent a red card. Billy Bremner was arrested for fouling him and the referee dismissed him for disobeying the referee. In a 4–3 victory over Queens Park Rangers on November 2, 1968, his third goal of the season appeared.

Redknapp won 1–0 home victory over Newcastle United on September 9, 1969, his first game of the season, while his first goal of the season came in a 3–0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday on September 2nd. Redknapp made 26 appearances and scored one goal, with 23 of them being in the league.

Redknapp made 21 league appearances during the 1970-71 season, with one of them being in the League Cup. He made a further 35 appearances during the 1971–72 season, with 22 of them playing in the league. This will be his last season with the club before he moved to AFC Bournemouth for the 1972–73 season. He made 175 appearances for West Ham in both league and cup action, scoring eight times in seven seasons.

Redknapp debuted from West Ham in 1972 and joined Division 3 AFC Bournemouth. He spent four seasons on the south coast from 1972 to 1976.

Redknapp made 37 appearances in the league from 1972-73, 34 of them appearing in the league scoring once, and Bournemouth placed seventh in the league. During the 1973-1974 season, he made his first five appearances in the league, totaling 48 times.

When Bournemouth was promoted to the Fourth Division, Redknapp made 19 (all league) appearances during the 1974–75 season. He made nine appearances between 1975 and 1976. He went to Brentford, his fourth Division side, where he made one appearance in 1976–77.

Redknapp was a member-coach for the Seattle Sounders in 1976, joining the North American Soccer League (NASL) club Seattle Sounders as a player-coach. During the 1976 season, he made 15 appearances, starting second in the Pacific Conference, Western Division, before losing to the Minnesota Kicks in the Division Championship. He appeared briefly for AP Leamington in the Southern League Premier Division before returning to Seattle. Redknapp made five appearances in the Pacific Conference, Western Division, before losing out in Soccer Bowl '77 to Pelé's New York Cosmos, 2–1.

Redknapp continued to make three appearances in the 1978 season, but just one in the 1979 season, before teammate and 1966 World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore joined up with old teammate and 1966 World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore.

In 1980, he was signed to play for the Phoenix Fire, but the team was forced to suspend in pre-season.

International career

When he was 17 years old, Redknapp represented England at the youth level. He was in the team that lifted the 1964 European Under-18 Championship after defeating Spain 4–0 in the final.

Management and coaching career

Redknapp began his coaching career with the Seattle Sounders in NASL from 1976 to 1979, under Jimmy Gabriel. Redknapp made 24 appearances during his tenure with Seattle, including his second appearance in the Pacific Conference, Western Division, and then to third place in the Pacific Conference, Western Division, in 1976, before losing to Pelé's New York Cosmos.

Redknapp helped Seattle win third place in the National Conference, Western Division, before losing in the first round of the playoffs to the New York Cosmos. He led them to another third-place finish in the National Conference, Western Division, but not this time.

Bobby Moore, a former West Ham colleague, was then assisted by Redknapp at Isthmian League club Oxford City.

Redknapp took up his first big coaching role at AFC Bournemouth's David Webb's, six years after leaving the club as a player, at the start of the 1982–83 season. When Webb left Torquay United part of the season, Redknapp applied for the manager's job, but Don Megson was ruled in favour of Don Megson. Megson was fired in late 1983 as Bournemouth were relegation agencies, and Redknapp was hired as his replacement in October 1983.

Redknapp helped Bournemouth avoid relegation to the Fourth Division in his first season as a coach. Bournemouth stunned Manchester United 2–0 in the third round, causing another surprise in the FA Cup. Bournemouth defeated Hull City in the final to win the inaugural Associate Members' Cup. Bournemouth defeated the Third Division title in 1987 with 97 points, breaking the club's record for the most points collected in a season.

Bournemouth was relegated at the end of third season after two years at this level. Bournemouth was in 13th place on 3 March, but the squad's depleted squad, as well as a catastrophic lack of form, saw them miss just one more game this season and was relegated to Leeds United on 5 May.

Redknapp, the chairman of York City, Fred Whitehouse, chairman of Aston Villa, and Bournemouth's managing director, Brian Tiler were involved in a road accident in June 1990 while in Italy watching the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Three Italian soldiers were killed in a head-on collision during a ride through Latina south of Rome at night. The minibus had been turned onto its roof and skidded 50 yards along the road. Tiler was killed, as were the three other passengers of the car, who were seated in the seat where Redknapp had traditionally sat during the trip. Redknapp was doused in petrol and steered clear of the accident by Sinclair, who was not injured. Redknapp's left leg had a fractured skull, a cracked nose, cracked ribs, and a gash in his left leg. He was dead and ambulance services arrived at the scene, placing a blanket over his head. Redknapp was flown home two weeks later in a Bournemouth special air ambulance that had been unconscious for two days. Despite complete recovery, apart from losing his smell and developing a facial tic, he left Bournemouth at the end of the 1991–92 season.

Redknapp was appointed assistant manager to Billy Bonds at West Ham for the upcoming season, one of his former clubs. However, the club board of directors decided to hand over the team's leadership to Redknapp and shift Bonds from a managerial role in August 1994. Bonds were eventually released outright from the club, leaving Redknapp solely in charge.

Redknapp was linked with the managerial vacancy at Southampton following former boss Ian Branfoot's departure, but the job was moved to Alan Ball just months before being promoted to the manager's seat at Upton Park.

Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, and Frank Lampard were among the club's youth players to join the FA Premier League, including Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, and Frank Lampard. Stuart Pearce, Paolo Di Canio, and Trevor Sinclair's signings helped them re-establish their careers after being signed by Redknapp. He has also made mistakes in the transfer market, including Marco Boogers, Florin Raducioiu, and Paulo Futre.

Despite this, West Ham finished in eighth position in 1998 and ninth in 1999, when the club qualified for the UEFA Intertototo Cup in their second-best ever season in the top division. West Ham won the Intertoto Cup and qualified for the UEFA Cup in 1999-2000, but in the Premier League, they were unable to repeat their results from 1999-2000. On May 9, 2001, Redknapp played for West Ham for one game before the 2000–01 season was over. For a time, it was unclear whether he resigned or was fired, but Redknapp shed new light on the truth of the situation in October 2007.

Redknapp became the Leicester City manager of football in 2001, and when the Leicester City manager's job was unfilled after Peter Taylor's dismissal this fall, Redknapp was widely predicted to take over at the East Midlands club, but Nottingham stayed loyal to Pompey, with Dave Bassett taking over. Bassett would have been on his teaching staff at the East Midlands club, ironically, it was announced in national media that if Redknapp had been taken over.

However, Graham Rix was fired in March 2002 after the club's poor results. Redknapp led the club to the Division One championship in 2002-2003, winning promotion to the Premier League after swapping with West Ham, his former club.

In the 2003-2004 season, Redknapp dominated Portsmouth in the Premier League, but a spat with Portsmouth owner Milan Mandari over his assistant Jim Smith caused a rift between him and Portsmouth owner Milan Mandari. Velimir Zajec was named as the head of football by the Redknapp in November 2004 and resigned as manager in February.

Redknapp took over Southampton a few weeks after his release as the two clubs are fierce local rivals. Many followers borrow shirts that referred to Redknapp as "scummer" and "Judas" and called for "Rot in Hell" and "Judas."

Redknapp was charged with keeping Southampton in the Premier League, a parallel challenge to the one faced by Redknapp and Portsmouth over the previous 15 years, but the club's 27-year existence ended Southampton's 27-year tenure in the top flight. Redknapp remained in charge of the 2005–06 Championship season, but was unable to develop consistency in order to make Southampton promotion candidates afloat. Clive Woodward's appointment of Clive Woodward to the club's coaching staff was also dissatisfied with Redknapp's chairman Rupert Lowe. Redknapp resigned as Southampton's manager after being consistently linked to a return to Portsmouth after sacking Alain Perrin. Redknapp referred to Portsmouth as his "spiritual home," according to Lowe.

Redknapp returned to Portsmouth on December 7, 2005, with the club threatening by relegation to the Championship, but not in the relegation zone. Redknapp's debut seemed to be destined for a second straight relegation, but Portsmouth's continued form at the end of the season, aided by Alexandre Gaydamak's takeover of Portsmouth (which gave Redknapp more funds), ensured Portsmouth's longevity. Redknapp led Portsmouth to their ninth-place finish in the club's highest league finish since the 1950s. Redknapp began a new contract with Portsmouth in October 2007 and went into 2011 a redknapp.

Following Sam Allardyce's dismissal, Redknapp was offered the vacant manager's job at Newcastle United in January 2008. Redknapp had apparently resigned from his position, saying, "I have a job to do to bring this team forward, and walking away would not have been the right thing to do." Redknapp "was interviewed for the position," Newcastle chairman Christopher Morton later revealed, but it was only one of a number of people we were meeting at the time," and the club had already been in clandestine negotiations with Kevin Keegan, the potential appointee for a week.

Portsmouth defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on March 8, 2008, defeating the club for a hat-trick of FA Cup victories over Manchester United, and then a semi-final victory over West Bromwich Albion at Wembley Stadium. He coached the team to their first FA Cup Final in 69 years, where they defeated Cardiff City on May 17 to win The FA Cup 1–0. He is the last English manager to win a major English trophy.

In a ceremony on October 28, 2008, Redknapp returned to Portsmouth to receive the Freedom of the City. Despite leading the team to a long-awaited trophy in the 2008 FA Cup, he received a mixed reception from the Portsmouth supporters two days after his departure for Tottenham Hotspur.

Following Juande Ramos' dismissal by Tottenham Hotspur, the club revealed that Redknapp had agreed to take over as the club's new manager in October 2008, where he began his playing career. Tottenham paid Portsmouth £5 million in fine for the loss of Redknapp. Spurs had only two points from the first eight matches of the season before Redknapp's arrival and layoff of the Premier League table, but after winning ten out of the 12 points available, as well as a thrilling 4–4 draw against North London rivals Arsenal, the Spurs had only won 10 points out of the relegation zone.

In January 2009, Redknapp signed five new players in order to improve quality and much-needed depth to his team. Wilson Palacios of Wigan Athletic paid him back Jermain Defoe from his former club Portsmouth for £15.75 million and Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios from Wigan Athletic for £12 million. Carlo Cudicini, a long-serving Chelsea goalkeeper, has also joined on a free transfer; former Spurs player Pascal Chimbonda returned to White Hart Lane from Sunderland for a fee in the region of £3 million; and Robbie Keane, who like Chimbonda and Defoe, joined Spurs for a fee of £3 million; and Defoe had only been fired within the last year after an unsuccessful stint at Liverpool for a fee of £12 million

Spurs' second half form has gradually risen to the top of the league table in the second half of the season. Spurs were pushed to the League Cup final in March 2009, where they lost on penalties to Manchester United. Spurs eventually finished in eighth position with 51 points, barely missing out on a UEFA Europa League spot.

In the summer of 2009, Redknapp made significant changes to the squad. Darren Bent was sold to Sunderland for £10 million, but midfielder Didier Zokora left for Sevilla for £7.75 million. Peter Crouch, England's international striker, and Croatia midfielder Niko Kranjar from Portsmouth paid £9 million and $2 million respectively, as well as defender Sébastien Bassong from Newcastle United for £8 million.

Spurs led Spurs to one of their most lucrative Premier League campaigns to date in 2009–10. Redknapp's first full campaign with the club in 2009–10. Spurs continued to finish fourth place with 70 points, effectively qualifying for the UEFA Champions League via a play-off, beginning with four straight victories. He received the Premier League Manager of the Year award as a result of his efforts, only the second manager to do so in a season in which his team did not win the title.

Spurs announced on July 13, 2010 that Redknapp's deal had been extended until the 2013 season.

Spurs regained control of the Champions League group stage on August 25, 2010 by defeating Swiss team Young Boys at White Hart Lane in the Champions League play-off. Spurs were eliminated in April 2011 after a 5–0 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in a tumultuous run to the quarter-finals. Spurs reached their fifth position in the Premier League this season with 62 points. Although not enough to guarantee a second year of Champions League football, Redknapp's Spurs qualified for the Europa League, but not enough to guarantee a second year of Champions League football.

Redknapp signed Brad Friedel, a 40-year-old goalkeeper, after his deal with Aston Villa came to an end. Emmanuel Adebayor, a Manchester City striker, has also completed a season-long loan move. He rewarded English midfielder Scott Parker with an undisclosed fee from West Ham on transfer deadline day. Redknapp then went on to win the Premier League Manager of the Month award for September and November.

Despite leading Tottenham to their second fourth-placed finish in three years and missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification due to Chelsea's victory in the tournament, Redknapp was fired by Tottenham on June 13, 2012, after reportedly failing to reach an agreement on a new deal.

Redknapp, who had been working at previous clubs Bournemouth in an advisory role, was appointed as the manager of Queens Park Rangers on November 24, 2012, replacing Mark Hughes, whose deal was terminated the previous day. QPR had to drop four points from 12 matches, and they were in last place with just four points from 12 matches. QPR's first match in charge of QPR was a 0–0 draw away from Sunderland on November 27th. After defeating Fulham 2–1 at Loftus Road on December 15, Redknapp secured his first victory as QPR manager and the club's first Premier League victory of the 2012–13 season.

Redknapp led QPR to a 1–0 victory over Chelsea, the reigning European champions. This was QPR's first away victory in the Premier League since November 2011, and the first top flight victory at Stamford Bridge since March 1979. Redknapp led QPR to a 0–0 draw at Loftus Road in his first match since being fired by the North London club on January 12, 2013.

After a 0–0 draw with fellow relegation rivals Reading and three games of the season to play, QPR was relegated from the Premier League to the Championship after two seasons in the top flight on April 28, 2013. Redknapp led QPR to a 1–0 victory over Derby County in the Play-off Final against Derby County on May 24, 2014, returning the club to the Premier League after a single season in the Championship. Redknapp resigned as QPR's boss on February 3rd. Redknapp said he could not give 100% to the job and that it would be safer for someone else to take over as boss with a forthcoming knee injury. Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey were put in temporary charge. Redknapp outlined his reasons for leaving QPR in April 2015, saying he had also left the team because he "no longer knew who was on my team." QPR finished second in the Premier League at 19 points from 23 matches and a record zero points from away matches at his time of resignation.

Redknapp was named head of Jordan's national team in March 2016 along with his former assistant, Kevin Bond, for the country's next two qualifying matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Redknapp's first match as Jordan's manager ended in an 8–0 victory over Bangladesh on March 24th. This was followed by a 5–1 loss to Australia.

Redknapp was appointed as Birmingham City's manager until the end of the season on April 18, 2017 following Gianfranco Zola's resignation. A 1–0 loss to local rivals Aston Villa in his first game as coach. Redknapp's team defeated Huddersfield Town 2–0, followed by a 1–0 away victory at Bristol City, allowing Birmingham to escape any danger of relegation.

Redknapp agreed to serve as Birmingham's boss for another season in May 2017. Kevin Bond was reunited with Redknapp as assistant manager, replacing outgoing Steve Cotterill. David Stockdale, Marc Roberts, and Cheikh N'Doye were among his first signings.

Following five straight league losses that left the team second last in the table, Birmingham City released a statement on September 16th saying the club was "left with no choice but to end the manager's deal with immediate effect." Redknapp said that his job as Birmingham manager would be his last managerial position after his dismissal. Redknapp announced his retirement from management after 34 years in the dugout a month earlier.

A Sandbanks beach hut that doesn't even have a toilet and has a mattress on the floor has hit the market for £450,000

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 18, 2024
Hut number 297 is £200,000 more expensive than your average home in Yorkshire. The blue hut doesn't have access to a toilet and the small 'upstairs' area only has a mattress on the floor. While the interior itself is pretty basic, the location of the hut really does seem to be everything here. Over the past 25 years the value of the 16ft by 13ft huts on the remote sandbank have skyrocketed in value, despite owners only being able to sleep in them during certain months of the year.

Everyone from the likes of university students and alcohol entrepreneurs, to Qatari playboys appear to be saddling up and splashing out the big bucks for a slice of the action - with some spending more than £1million for a horse. And it's a trend savvy auctioneers are seizing upon, as they try and tempt social-media obsessed youngsters into parting with their cash, by selling them the dream of one day parading around Ascot and rubbing shoulders with royalty.

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 14, 2024
Harry Redknapp has blasted Liverpool for their wastefulness after Sunday's shock 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield. The Reds were dealt a serious blow in their hunt Premier League title as Eberechi Eze scored the only goal in Palace's shock 1-0 win at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp's side were punished for a poor start by Eze after 14 minutes and then failed to take a host of chances in a frustrating second half on Sunday.
