Harriet Sansom Harris Life

Harriet Sansom Harris (born January 8, 1955), also known as Harriet Harris, is an American actress known for her stage appearances and portrayals of Bebe Glazer on Frasier and Felicia Tilman in Desperate Housewives.

Harris was named a Featured Actress in a Musical in 2002 for her role in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

She has appeared on television and theater, as well as film appearances, including Memento, Addams Family Values, Nurse Betty, and Phantom Thread.

Early life

Harris was born in Fort Worth, Texas, as one of two children. She is a descendant of one of Marion Sansom's brothers, a twentieth-century rancher and civic figure, on her mother's side. After him, Sansom Park was named after him. She began attending Arlington Heights High School as a youngster. She attended Fort Worth Country Day School and graduated in 1973. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at age 17.

She joined The Acting Company, John Houseman's touring repertory company, where she stayed for three years after graduating from Juilliard. During this time, she appeared in performances of Shakespeare's King Lear and Juliet, Antigone, and Mother Courage and Her Children.

Career

Harris appeared on and off-Broadway, including a 1989 appearance at Second Stage Theatre in What a Man Weighs. In which she was the sole female cast member of Paul Rudnick's Jeffrey, one of her breakthrough performances was in the original cast.

Harris made her Broadway debut in Four Baboons Adoring the Sun in 1992. She was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for her role in Bella, Belle of Byelorussia, off-Broadway that year. She received her second Drama Desk nomination in 1993 for her role in Jeffrey. In 2002, she received both a Drama Desk and Tony Award as a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Harris has appeared in many stage productions around the country since 2005. Vera Charles appeared in the Kennedy Center's production of Mame opposite Christine Baranski in the title role in summer 2006. In early 2007, Harris appeared in The Glass Menagerie at the Guthrie Theatre as Amanda Wingfield. Mildred Watson Drake, a British comedian who appeared on Broadway in the revival of the John Van Druten comedy Old Acquaintance as Mildred Watson Drake with Margaret Colin at the American Airlines Theatre in summer 2007.

Harris returned to Broadway in 2007 and appeared on the musical Cry-Baby, based on the John Waters film of the same name. On March 15, 2008, the performance premiered at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway, and then opened on April 24. At the 2008 Tony Awards, the show was voted Best Musical and closed on June 22, 2008. In 2013, she returned to Broadway as the Evil Stepmother in Cinderella. Harris played the mother of the bride-to-bein 2005, sparring with Tyne Daly, who played the bride-to-be's mother. Harris appeared in the musical The Royal Family of Broadway, from June to July of 2018.

Harris' participation in Jeffrey culminated in several television appearances, including a recurring role on the Frasier's conniving agent Bebe Glazer from 1993 to 2004. Harris co-starred in many short films, including The 5 Mrs. Buchanans, Union Square, The Beast, and It's All Relative, but she appeared in numerous hit series, including Ghost Whisperer, Murphy Brown, Ally McBeal, Six Feet Under, Frasier, and Ellen. Dr. Sally Kendrick and her "Eve" clones were among her appearances on The X-Files in the 1993 episode "Eve." Margaret Milne appeared in the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries The Lost Room in 2006.

Harris appeared on Highway to Heaven's last episode in 1989, as Ruth Ann Kifer appeared in the "Merry Christmas From Grandpa" episode.
