Harper Reed (born March 21, 1978) is an American entrepreneur and former Head of Commerce for Braintree, a PayPal affiliate.
Reed was Chief Technology Officer for Barack Obama's 2012 re-election bid, despite his technical accomplishments, and he's best known for his punk-rock hairstyle.

Early life and education
Reed was born in Greeley, Colorado, where he was raised in a household without a television but with an Apple IIC. Reed served as the student council president of Greeley Central High School. Reed received degrees in philosophy and computer science from Cornell College in 2001. Reed, a juggling student and a member of The Jugglers Against Homophobia, a professional juggler, joined the Jugglers Against Homophobia after graduating. Reed has been incorrectly credited with a photograph on Metallica's Death Magnetic album. Reed's work was included in an Austrian documentary called Alles Under Control by Werner Boote. Reed is a voracious reader and lives in Chicago with his partner, Hiromi Nakazawa.

Career
Reed's first job out of college was as an engineer for World Book Publishing.
Reed served as the CTO of Threadless, a clothing company in the United States, from 2005 to 2009, where he helped lead it through a period of rapid expansion owing to the crowdsourcing trend.
Reed served as the Chief Technology Officer for Obama for America from April 2011 to the November 2012 election. Project Narwhal, a central database of electoral data, was a main focus of that study. Reed joined a team of developers from various tech firms like Twitter, Google, Facebook, Craigslist, Quora, Orbitz, and Threadless. This strategy, rather than the political one, involved recruiting technology specialists from the tech startup community rather than the political arena.
Reed founded Modest, a start-up company that created mobile device-based retail solutions, in 2012. Modest was primarily funded by Eric Schmidt. Braintree bought Modest and relaunched the Modest website as PayPal Commerce in August 2015.
Reed began work with PayPal as a Senior Director of Software Development and as Entrepreneur in Residence in PayPal's Next Generation Commerce group.
