Hannah Mills (born 29 February 1988) is a British competitive sailor and two-time world champion in the Women's 470 class, having triumphed in 2012 and 2019.
Mills won a silver medal for Team GB in the 2012 Olympics with her crew Saskia Clark, and she also won gold in the same sport at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Early life
Mills was born in Cardiff, Wales, and she began sailing at Cardiff Sailing Centre (then Llanishen Sailing Centre) when she was 8 years old after spending some time sailing on a family holiday in Cornwall. Mills later qualified for the Welsh National Optimist Squad, winning the British Optimist Championships in 2001. She starred for GBR at the 2002 and 2003 Optimist World Championships, placing first girl and fifth over-all in 2003, the highest ever result for a British sailor at that championship.
Mills spent her teen years at Howell's School in Llandaff, with her now-deceased cousin being a tutor. She is a student at the University of On the other hand, she is a student at the school for the benefit of her academic achievements.
Career
Hannah earned a silver medal in the 470 Women class at the 2011 Skandia Sail for Gold regatta and the 2011 Weymouth & Portland International Regatta.
Hannah and her crew Saskia earned gold at the 2012 World Championships in Barcelona after suffering a black flag in the very first race of the championships.
Hannah Mills, helming for Saskia Clark, received a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Weymouth on August 10th. Mills battled hard through the competition, with no one finishing outside the top six overall in the entire regatta. Saskia Clark, a member of the New Zealand team, received equal points in the medal run, but she was far enough ahead of the rest of the fleet, with both boats competing for Gold and Silver. The team got off to a promising start, but they finished ninth in the medal run, which gave them the Silver medal.
Mills and Clark were robbed at knifepoint in Rio de Janeiro on December 10, 2014, when they were in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games.
At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Mills and Clark won gold. Mills was named as one of the top 12 sailors by the British Olympic Association for Tokyo 2020 in October 2019.
