College career
Baskett was the team's top receiver in 2004 and 2005 when he attended the University of New Mexico, earning him the Reese Leroy Hill Memorial Award as the team's Offensive Player of the Year during those years. In addition, he received All-Mountain West Conference (MWC) awards as a senior, throwing 1,071 yards and nine touchdowns. He earned his degree in General Management, a four-time all-academic MWC honoree.
Professional career
Baskett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver Billy McMullen when he first signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a rookie undrafted free agent in 2006.
Baskett had 112 receiving yards and one touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys, as well as 177 receiving yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons. Baskett was named rookie of the week for his participation in these games. With 22 receptions for 464 yards (21.1 yards per catch) and two touchdowns, he had a successful rookie season. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for 2007 by the United States National Patrialist Society. He played in another six games in 2008, totaling 33 receptions, 440 yards, and three touchdowns for a 13.3 percent average.

After Anthony Gonzalez sustained a knee injury in September 17, 2009, Baskett signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Baskett failed to recover an onside kick (which resulted in a Saints touchdown) at the start of the second half on February 7, 2010. New Orleans won the game 31–17. Baskett was released by the Colts on the next day, February 8, 2010.
Baskett signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 12, 2010. He was released on September 21, 2010.
Baskett re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings on September 22, 2010. He appeared in eight games in 2010, mainly on special teams with one reception. He was not released a tender by the Vikings on March 3, 2011, making him an unrestricted free agent but effectively ending his NFL career.
