Early life and career beginnings
Han Seung-yeon was born in Seoul, South Korea, on July 24, 1988, in Yeongdeungpo District. In a bit role in Dear Ends (1993), Summer Showers (1995), and Star in My Heart (1997), she made her acting debut as a child actress. She later left South Korea to attend Tenafly High School in New Jersey, United States. However, she dropped out of high school mid-course in order to pursue a singing career. On March 29, 2007, she debuted as a member of the girl group Kara after returning to South Korea. She passed a high school aptitude exam, the College Scholastic Ability Test, during her time with the company and was accepted by Kyung Hee University, majoring in theater and film.
Career
On M!, Seungyeon debuted as Kara's top vocalist. The countdown began on March 29, 2007.
She was the VJ for MSL Break from 2007 to 2008. Tiffany of Girls' Generation replaced Tiffany of Girls' Generation as co-host of Boys and Girls Music Countdown in June 2008 with Kim Hye-sung and Kim Soo-hyun later in the year. On May 8, 2009, their segment came to an end. She appeared on MBC Every 1 reality show I Need a Family, which featured a father, mother, and daughter. She debuted on November 21, 2008 as a "pop reporter" on MBC's entertainment news show Section TV.
Han was featured on rapper Nassun's single "Come to Play," which was released in March 2009, and was included on the soundtrack to the film Why Did You Come to My House? "Miracle" is her first solo album released in 2009. She joined the "Dream Team Girl Group" in October 2009 and was named 4Tomorrow for Samsung's campaign Samsung Anycall. In the period drama Jang Ok-jung, Life by Love (2013), she played Choi Suk-bin in her first major supporting role. Jang Bo-ri is Here, a weekend drama starring Tina Dug Bo-ri. She appeared in the cable series Her Lovely Heels the first year. Han and fellow member Park Gyu-ri appeared as hosts of The Show from 2013 to 2014.
Kara was disbanded in January 2016 after Seungyeon, Park Gyuri, and Goo Hara decided not to renew their deal. In the same year, she began working with J Wide Company in the same year. Han was cast in the omnibus web film Bugs Attack in May. Han appeared in Hello, My Twenties, a coming-of-age youth drama. Han was cast in a short film called Frame in Love in October 2016.
Han starred in JTBC's web drama Last Minute Romance in 2017. She also appeared in the sequel to Hello, My Twenties.
