Life and career
Gustavo Rojo was born on 5 September 1923 aboard a German ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Mercedes Pinto, the Spanish author who immigrated to Uruguay for political reasons, was his mother. Pituka de Foronda and Ruben Rojo, his two older siblings, became actors. Mercedes produced a play in the late 1920s, and Gustavo made his debut in theater. In 1938 Cuban film Ahora semes felices, Gustavo's debut came as a child actor, in which his older sister Pituka appeared as a lead actor. The family migrated to Mexico in the 1940s, where Rojo continued to work steadily into the 1940s.
In 1947, he made his Hollywood debut in the film Tarzan and the Mermaids, which starred Johnny Weissmuller and Brenda Joyce.
In 1958, Rojo was engaged to Austrian actress Erika Remberg. He died on April 22, 2017 at the age of 93.
