Gustav Emil Johnson (born June 20, 1995) is an American comedian and filmmaker known for sketch comedy on YouTube.

Early life

Gus Johnson was born to Debra Johnson (née Allaman), a volleyball coach and former English teacher, and Pete Johnson. Johnson grew up in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, with three younger siblings, Sven, Thor, and Hanne, with whom he often collaborates. His family is of Norwegian and Swedish descent.

Johnson filmed "stupid sketches" in middle school, which kids will find amusing. He was elected governor of Badger Boys State in 2013 and graduated from Grantsburg High School in 2014. He earned a degree in entertainment design from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, focusing on digital cinema. He and fellow YouTuber Eddy Burback later moved to Los Angeles.

Personal life

In October 2021, Johnson's ex-girlfriend and fellow YouTuber Abelina Sabrina Rios released a video describing her ectopic pregnancy and the lack of assistance she received from the medical system and her boyfriend all through. Although she didn't reveal the boyfriend in the video, it was quickly revealed to be Johnson. Following Rios' video, Johnson and his principal collaborator, Eddy Burback, announced the cancellation of their podcast and their comedy tour. Johnson later received an apology for his conduct.

Career

With his first video, "Ian's Song," Johnson launched his YouTube channel in 2010. He went on to produce meme videos starring himself and his colleagues, which became more popular. "How To Get Free Food From Subway," his first viral video, has 2.4 million views as of January 2021.

Since the start of his career, Johnson has been posting music on YouTube. Joe Dumas, a hometown friend, released the album Lighting Rods and Leaky Roofs in 2015, and the album Champagne Seats in 2016. OK I'll Talk is Johnson's brother and fellow YouTuber Eddy Burback's podcast called OK I'll Talk in 2017. Johnson departed from the podcast in October 2021 and produced The Gus & Eddy Podcast, moving from the Midwest to Los Angeles; Johnson later moved from the Midwest to Los Angeles; Eddy Podcast appeared on television. This podcast is similar to OK I'll Talk, with occasional guests appearing. Johnson also fell into longform comedy in late 2017, raising funds for a comedy series on a run-down golf course called "Par 9."

Johnson received a nomination for Best YouTube Comedian at the 11th Shorty Awards in January 2019. During Johnson's appearance on YouTube on April 10, 2019, the H3 Podcast reached 1 million viewers. He released a video titled "Thank You for 1 million," in which he thanked everyone who had supported him along the way. In 2019, he signed a Viacom talent agreement to produce content for Comedy Central.
