Junior career

At the age of 14, he won his first major junior title, the U14 European championship. He won the Orange Bowl U16 boys singles in 2006 and was later named the Eddie Herring International 2007 Rising Star.

Dimitrov was the finalist at the Orange Bowl U18 boys singles in 2007, losing to Lithuania's Riardas Berankis. With Vasek Pospisil, he reached the US Open doubles final, losing to Jonathan Eysseric and Jérôme Inzerillo.

With a quarterfinal appearance at the French Open, he began the 2008 Grand Slam Championship season, losing in three sets to Poland's Jerzy Janowicz. Professional career

Dimitrov began regularly participating in men's activities in 2008. At a futures tournament in Barcelona, his first victory came on clay. In straight sets, he lost in a single sets to Igor Andreev in his first ATP level match.
