Grégoire Kayibanda (May 1, 1924 – December 15, 1976) was Rwanda's first elected President.
He fought Rwanda's reelection from Belgium as a pioneer of the Rwandese revolution and replaced the Tutsi throne with a republican model of government.
He argued for the Hutu majority's rule.
Early life and education
Kayibanda was born in Tare, Rwanda, on May 1st 1924. He attended primary school in Tare before arriving in Kabgayi. In 1937, Kayibanda was accepted in the Saint Léon Minor Seminary of Kabgayi. After the completion of his minor seminary in 1943, he went to the Metropolitan Seminary of Nyakibanda, where he spent four years.
