What if Lucy Letby is innocent? Her case must be reopened as growing doubts about her conviction are raised by medical experts and criminologists, argues PETER HITCHENS

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 13, 2024
If Lucy Letby is guilty, then there is a strong case for executing her. Her supposed crimes are so cruel and so grievous, and there are so many of them. It is hard to see any argument against the death penalty - if she is guilty. Death would be far more merciful than keeping her locked up until she dies. A serial child killer in prison, despised by all, endlessly at the mercy of other prisoners, never safe from sudden assault, must surely be among the most miserable people on earth. But that is if she is guilty. It is much, much worse than that if she is innocent. If she is not guilty, then she should be freed as soon as humanly possible. Every second she serves is an outrage. This is why I believe the Criminal Cases Review Commission should move to have the case reopened as soon as possible.

Cash is freedom and independence which is why 'progressives' want to abolish it. In a card-only society, the State will know EVERYTHING about us, says PETER HITCHENS

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 11, 2024
As the crowded train groans and struggles through the usual signal failures, points failures, emergency track inspections and trespasser alerts, a cheery voice announces the approach of the refreshment trolley over the loudspeakers. But it adds in stern tones 'Regretfully, we are not accepting cash today. Contactless payments only'. They lie. They don't regret it all. Cash is a fiddly nuisance to them. Also, it is not just today they are not accepting money. They never accept money. No explanation is offered for this restriction, but I know from experience that it is an iron law, not open to debate.

PETER HITCHENS: Another foreign brawl? Ohhh, grow up! We can't even fix our pothole-peppered roads

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 13, 2024
PETER HITCHENS: Oh, when will Britain just grow up? We have no funds, yet we spend billions of dollars on arming Ukraine in a dubious war in which we have no national interest. We cannot monitor the beaches off our southern shores, on which strangers land almost every day, but we follow along with the Americans in the belief that we can monitor the Red Sea, as we seek (as far as I can comprehend) to get involved in yet another conflict in the Middle East. Haven't we had enough of these stupid brawls?
