Glover Freeman Quin Jr. (born January 15, 1986) is a former American footballer.

He played college football at New Mexico and Southwest Mississippi Community College, and was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

After spending his first four seasons in Houston, he was also a member of the Detroit Lions for six seasons.

Personal life

In Summit, Mississippi, Quin was raised by his parents Glover and Annie Quin. In Houston, Texas, he and his wife, Gladys Quinn, raise their three children. While Quin was with the Lions in Detroit, he was impacted by Hurricane Harvey. He serves as an assistant coach for his son Dacquan's little league baseball team. Quin also serves as a mentor for several young players on the team, as well as a leader on the Lions' defense.

During his time in New Mexico, he concentrated on commerce. Quin has followed a 30-70 savings plan that was introduced to him by a financial advisor before entering the league. High school career

Quin graduated from North Pike High School in 2004 as a four-year letterman in football and basketball. Quin earned the MVP award from both his basketball and football teams at North Pike during his senior years. Quin had rushed for 2,552 yards, made 224 tackles, and 13 interceptions by the end of his high school career. Quin was given the U.S. Army Scholar Athlete Award.

College career

After a year at Southwest Mississippi Community College, Quin was accepted to the University of New Mexico. Quin was a three-year starter at the University of New Mexico's cornerback position.

Quin earned an Honorable Mention on the All Mountain West Conference (MWC), team as a sophomore, in 2006. Quin played in 13 games for the Lobos this season. Quin led the MWC with 12 pass break-ups and finished second in the league, behind his colleague DeAndre Wright in passes defended with 12. Glover Quin was third on the Lobos and 29th in the MWC with 63 tackles on the year.

Quin also received Honorable Mention on the All Mountain West Conference Team in 2007, during his junior season. Quin suffered a painful groin injury that necessitated surgery early in the season. Following his return to the Lobos, the Lobos' defense increased its allowed passing yardage from 255.6 yards in the first five games to 161 yards in their final eight games. Professional career

Quin completed all of the combine drills at the Indianapolis, Indiana, NFL Scouting Combine. He did well, and also ran positional drills for scouts. Quin was expected to be a fifth round pick by NFL draft experts and scouts at the conclusion of the pre-draft process. In the 2009 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans selected Quin in the fourth round (112th overall) and his fourth round (112th overall). In 2008, he was the eighth safety draftee.

Quin competed for a backup cornerback against Antwaun Molden, Fred Bennett, David Pittman, Brice McCain, and Matterral Richardson during training camp. His game didn't recover in the 2018 season. According to ProFootballFocus, Quin went without an interceptor for the first time since 2011 and ranked 58th at the position.

Quin was signed by the Lions on February 15, 2019. During his six-year stint in Detroit, he played in all 96 regular season games.

Quin announced his retirement from football after ten seasons on July 9, 2019.
