Gloria Elizabeth Reuben (born June 9, 1964) is a Canadian actress, producer, and singer.

She is best known for her role in the ER (1995–1999, 2008) film in which she was twice nominated for an Emmy Award twice, as well as portraying Elizabeth Keckley in the 2012 Academy Award-winning film Lincoln. In addition, she has appeared in films including Timecop (1994), Nick of Time (1995), Admission (2013), and Reasonable Doubt (2014).

Krista Gordon, the main character on Mr. John Kerry, plays Krista Gordon. On a Hill in Seattle, Robot (2015-present) and a recurring character (2019–present).

Adina Johnson appeared on Cloak & Dagger from 2018 to 2019.

Early life

Gloria Reuben was born in Toronto, Ontario, on June 9, 1964, to Pearl Avis (Mills), a classical singer, and Cyril George Reuben, an engineer. Both her parents are Jamaican-born. Her father was mainly Jewish (with Ashkenazi and Sephardi roots), but he did have some African roots; her mother, however, is of mostly African descent; When she was young, her father died. Reuben was the subject of a segment of Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s television genealogy program Finding Your Roots.

Reuben was one of six children when he was born. Denis Simpson, her older brother, was an actor and children's television host and died in 2010. David, her younger brother, died in 1988. In her book My Brothers' Keeper, Reuben discusses her relationship and acquaintance with the deaths of her brothers.

Reuben began learning piano as an infant and then studied music theory and analysis, ballet, and jazz at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Personal life

Reuben is a student at the University of Brooklyn, New York.

Reuben is a committed social activist. She continues to raise money regarding the HIV/AIDS pandemic in large part due to her presence in an HIV-positive role in the hospital. She has also spoken at several major fundraising events. She is also very interested in global affairs, mainly climate change, nature, and human rights. Gloria Reuben is the president of Waterkeeper Alliance, an international network of grassroots activists working to protect everyone's right to clean water. She is also a climate change advisor for The Climate Reality Project, former United States vice president Al Gore's environmental group. She served on the National Wildlife Federation's board for a time. Reuben is also on the Leadership Council for the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights.

After having worked as a model and in television advertisements, Reuben began her acting career as an actress.

Reuben first appeared on American television show ER as Jeanie Boulet, an HIV-positive physician assistant on the hospital's staff. She appeared on the first season as a guest actress and was promoted to full-time cast member at the start of the second season. She stayed in that role until early in the sixth season. Reuben returned to ER for one episode in 2008 during its 14th season. She has claimed that this position aided in her HIV/AIDS activism. People magazine named her as one of the world's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1996.

When Reuben appeared as FBI agent Brooke Haslett in 1-800-Missing (1996-2004), she appeared in a major television series. Rosalind Whitman appeared in the TNT series Raising the Bar later this year.

Professor Kathy Miller appeared as Reuben in the season two finale of Drop Dead Diva as Professor Kathy Miller. Reuben appeared in season 12 of NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, reprising her role as US Attorney Christine Danielson. Jesse Stone, the Doubt, was a CBS TV film released in 2012. Reuben played Elizabeth Keckley in Lincoln's historical drama film Lincoln in 2012, and her portrayal of the character has received critical praise. Falling Skies, a sci-fi drama series, starred Ruth Sherriff in 2013.

It was announced in October 2014 that Reuben had joined the cast of the USA Network show Mr. Robot. Elliott plays Dr. Krista Gordon, the psychiatrist of the show's volatile main character. In June 2015, the show premiered on. She appeared on all four seasons of the program. Reuben's character was elevated to a season regular for the fourth and final season, beginning as a recurring character.

In the series Cloak & Dagger, Adina Johnson, mother of Tyrone Johnson, was cast in 2017.

In 1999, Reuben appeared in The Vain Monologues' off-Broadway production. She appeared in the play Stuff Happens at the Public Theater in 2006 as Condoleezza Rice. She received the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actress, the highest accolade for off-Broadway performances, the following year. In 2008, she returned to Tusculum's Public Theater for Conversations.

Reuben sang backup vocals for Tina Turner on her Twenty Four Seven Tour in 2000.

Reuben is a regular jazz singer and pianist. In December 2007, she released Just for You, her first album. Perpetua to Dream, her second album, was released in April 2015; it was her first jazz album. Her new album, For All We Know, was released on the MCG Jazz recording label on February 14, where she is joined by guitarist and Grammy Award-winning producer Marty Ashby. In the fourth quarter of 2019, she appeared in all around New York City to raise her upcoming record.

Reuben's memoir, My Brothers' Keeper, describing her journey and an investigation into her two brothers' lives, as well as her emotions and experiences after their sudden deaths on November 19, 2019.
