Playing career

Ella began playing at Matraville High School and soon represented New South Wales in schoolboy rugby.

In a 7–12 loss to Scotland at Ballymore Stadium in 1982, he made his test debut for Australia, starting at fullback. In Rovigo, he played his second test for the Wallabies against Italy, winning 7–29. Ella's last two games for Australia against Canada and Fiji respectively in 1985. Both matches were successful.

Coaching career

During the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa, Glen Ella was Wallabies assistant coach. Ella and his family moved to England, where he taught Stourbridge for six months. He served as a technical advisor to the Brumbies and also coached the Australian Sevens.

"He also served as a Wallabies assistant coach under Eddie Jones and then took on a similar role with Canada ahead of their 2007 Rugby World Cup campaign," ESPN reports. He was appointed to a four-man Fiji Rugby Union selection committee in 2009.

He served as the backs' coach for the England team that toured Australia under coach Eddie Jones in 2016.
