Giselle Fernández (born May 15, 1961) is an American television journalist and anchor for Spectrum News 1.

Reporting and guest anchoring for CBS Early Show, CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, NBC Nightly News, regular host for Access Hollywood, and guest on Dancing with the Stars are among her appearances on television.

Early life and education

Fernández was born in Mexico City and was transplanted to East Los Angeles, Texas, at the age of four. Her Catholic father was a flamenco dancer, while her Jewish mother was a student of Mexican folklore. She earned her B.A. from California State University, Sacramento, where she graduated in 1982 with a B.A. Journalism and government are two branches of the same profession.

Personal life

Ron Kershaw, who was previously affiliated with Jessica Savitch, was among her visitors in Chicago. Both were engaged, but Kershaw died of pancreatic cancer and liver cancer. Her father died of Alzheimer's disease a month later. In 2002, she married British executive John Farrand, ex CEO of Panavision, Inc.; they had a daughter, Talei. In April 2014, the couple separated. Fernández was a contestant on ABC's Dancing with the Stars' second season in January 2006, but he was the third contestant to be disqualified. She worked with Jonathan Roberts and had an average of 23 points.

Career

KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs, Colorado, began in 1983, with brief stops on KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and then KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara, California. She joined KTLA in Los Angeles in 1985 as a reporter and weekend anchor. Actor Fess Parker, who lived in the Santa Barbara area and was a friend of KTLA's news managing director at the time, was recommended to KTLA. Fernandez moved to WBBM-TV in Chicago, and then to WCIX CBS's newly owned Miami station in 1989. She caused some controversy in Chicago in 1988 when she went boating with John Cappas, a drug dealer being sought by investigators, and then led him to his arrest by federal agents.

When she left New York City and became a reporter and back-up anchor for the morning, evening, and weekend news broadcasts, she earned her first national news job in October 1991 for CBS News. She later joined NBC, where she anchored Weekend Today and the sunday edition of NBC Nightly News, and substituted Brian Williams on the saturday edition as a reporter, as well as other special reporting assignments in the United States and elsewhere. Fernández reported on the crisis surrounding Cuban immigration, unrest in Haiti, the 1989 United States invasion of Panama, the deposition of the conspirators of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing in Panama, and a scud missile strike while covering the Persian Gulf War. Fidel Castro, then president of Cuba, was invited to a rare interview.

Fernández, co-host of Access Hollywood, NBC's entertainment news show, from 1996 to 1999. On the History Channel, she co-hosted the This Week in History program. She returned to Los Angeles in October 2001 and revived KTLA. She left this position in August 2003 to pursue a number of special ventures, including producing a film and writing children's books. Gigi and the Birthday Ring, Lavatory Publishing Company, was released in 2004.

She is president of Skinny Hippo Productions, her own production company, and F Squared Productions, where she is co-president of F Squared Productions, a film and television producer. Giselle is now a contributor to Spectrum Cable's News 1.
