Ravera was born in San Francisco, California. She is of mixed African-American and Puerto Rican descent. She is a classically trained dancer.
Ravera began appearing on television shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Melrose Place, and Star Trek: The Next Generation in the early 1990s. She appeared on CBS crime drama Silk Stalkings from 1993 to 1994.
