Virginia Claire Wigmore (born 6 June 1986) is a singer and songwriter from New Zealand.

Wigmore first appeared on the Smashproof single "Brother" in 2009, Gravel & Wine (2011), Blood to Bone (2015), and Ivory (2018), with the first three becoming chart-toppers on the New Zealand Albums Chart.

Her high-pitched and raspy voice distinguishes her.

Personal life

Wigmore was born in Auckland, New Zealand, to Peter and Adrienne Wigmore. She has two older siblings, sister Oliver Wigmore, and sister Lucy Wigmore, a professional actress known for starring Justine Jones in the long-running New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street and a role in Underbelly: Razor. During a private party in Hawaii in September 2014, she married Jason Butler, ex-lead singer of the band LetLive and now lead singer of Fever 333. Pascal Nashoba Butler, the couple's first child, was born on September 7, 2017. Izaiah River Butler, her second son, was born on March 20, 2020.

Wigmore is vegetarian and was shortlisted for SAFE's "New Zealand's Best Vegetarians" award in 2015.

Wigmore and her husband live in Palm Springs, California, where they own a boutique hotel.

Wigmore wrote her first song, "Angelfire," inspired by David Gray's album White Ladder at the age of 14. Two years later, her father died of cancer and Wigmore's writing and playing music has diminished. She went to Argentina on a student exchange program to teach at a kindergarten. On her return to New Zealand, she wrote "Hallelujah," a salute to her father. In 2004, her sister took the title for the first and only unsigned Grand Prize winner in the United States' history. "Angelfire" was also a success in the teen category.

Extended Play was Wigmore's first EP. It was produced by Tony Buchen (Blue King Brown, The Whitlams, Macromantics, Kid Confucius) and it includes the tracks "Hallelujah," "SOS," "Under My Skin," and "Easy Come Easy Go"; it was created by Tony Buchen (Blue King Brown, The Whitlams, Macromantics, Kid Confucius). On "SOS," Australian musician John Butler performed ukulele. The EP reached number ten in the New Zealand charts when it was first introduced in 2008. On May 2, 2010, it was certified Platinum in New Zealand, a sales of over 15,000 copies.

Island Records announced an extended Play in Australia on August 2nd, 2008. Wigmore was the first artist signed to Island Records, a partner company of Universal Music Group, Australia. In August/September 2008, she toured with Australian artist Pete Murray on his national tour. In 2008, Wigmore toured in Auckland, including at the Crosstown Revue, and in December 2008, they toured with musicians John Mellencamp and Sheryl Crow in New Zealand. Nothing to Hide, her hit single "Under My Skin" was featured on an Air New Zealand media campaign.

Wigmore appeared in the 2009 song and video of "Brother" by the new band Smashproof, who also hails from Auckland.

Wigmore's debut full-length album Holy Smoke, released in 2009 by Ryan Adams & the Cardinals' fame, was released. On the first single from the album, "Oh My," debuted on the New Zealand Singles Chart at number twenty-one on August 24, 2009, before climbing to number seven the following week. It reached its high point at number four.

During 2010, three other singles were released, "I Do" reached no. On the Official New Zealand Singles Chart, number 14 has been ranked 14th, while third single "Hey Ho" fell short of a top-ten position by charting just outside the top 20 positions. 21. Despite not striking no. 1, the fourth single from Holy Smoke was "Too Late For Lovers." The single failed to crack the national Top 40 on the NZ40 Airplay chart, placing it at #3 on the NZ40 Airplay chart. All four of Wigmore's singles from Holy Smoke appeared on the NZ40 Airplay Chart during the week of May 30, 2010, "Too Late For Lovers' #7, 'Oh My' #23, 'I Do' #37,' I Do' #37.

The single "Oh My" is the theme song for the film The Almighty Johnsons. "Hey Ho" by Wigmore appeared in the Weeds Season 6 Finale's closing scenes. Lowe's, a home improvement retailer, started a new brand campaign in September 2011 starring Wigmore's single "Don't Stop." In the TV film "Tangiwai," she performed "Stealing Happiness."

Wigmore spent two months in Mississippi and Alabama to get a Southern United States inspiration for her second album, which will be released in California under producer Butch Walker. Wigmore's official Facebook page revealed the name and release of her latest album Gravel & Wine in September 2011. "Black Sheep" was the first single released on September 26, 2011, debuting at number 13 in the Official New Zealand Music Chart. On September 7, 2011, the album was released. It debuted on the New Zealand charts and ranked #29 on the Australian Albums Chart, and at number 29. "Man Like That" and "If Only" are among Wigmore's music videos.

In episode 12, season 8 of Grey's Anatomy, and episode 1 of Wynonna Earp, "Black Sheep" appeared in episode 8, season 8 of Grey's Anatomy. On Gift of Revenge, ABC's television show Revenge season 2, episode 7, she appeared as she sang it. In the United States, the song was also used in television commercials for Guinness Black Lager and Nissan Rogue Midnight Edition (2017).

During season 2 of Teen Wolf, "Kill of the Night" was also included, as well as the film Pretty Little Liars and 666 Park Avenue, and AMC during its annual airing of Halloween films and shows named FearFest. Alfa Romeo in Australia, Nationwide Insurance in the United States, and a worldwide short by Johnnie Walker are among the commercials on the album.

In a Skyfall tie-in commercial from Heineken, Wigmore was included on the song "Man Like That," which also featured James Bond's Daniel Craig and Bond girl Bérénice Marlohe.

Gravel & Wine was launched in the United States on April 2, 2013, and Wigmore was on the entire 2013 Vans Warped Tour.

Wigmore had announced that on August 14th, she had started recording on her third album. Wigmore worked in West Hollywood from the 15th to the 22nd of August. On August 25, 2014, Wigmore shared a snapshot of the beginning of her thirteen-day studio stint at Blakeslee Recording Studio in North Hollywood, California. Stephen Rusch is the engineer who created the album. Wigmore's album cover and name of her third album, Blood to Bone, was due to be released by Island Records on January 29, 2015. It was Wigmore's third straight chart top in New Zealand, and it debuted at #13 on the ARIA Charts, her highest Australian debut. Blood to Bone came out in August and debuted in the Billboard Alternative Albums chart the following month. On the soundtrack of FIFA 16, her song "New Rush" was included. She dropped "Willing To Die" on June 6, 2015, a new promotional single starring American rapper Logic and Suffa of The Hilltop Hoods. The song features Alan Lomax's album "Rosie," which David Guetta also sampled on his album "Hey Mama," which was released in March 2015.

Wigmore revealed on Facebook on September 2nd that she had started working on her fourth studio album. Wigmore's "Dirty Mercy," the lead single from her forthcoming fourth album, which she had hoped to debut in 2017, was released on November 3rd. Wigmore said she started producing in May and released ten new songs soon after, although others said the album was "a very eclectic mash of styles" as "I continue to have trouble choosing for one particular style of music with my albums." Wigmore started another North American tour in November, beginning with the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City and spreading to other cities in the United States before December.

She appeared on TEDxScottBase in New Zealand's Antarctic research center in 2017. "Thoughts of You" was released by There Wigmore, a new song by the artist.

Wigmore's second single, "Hallow Fate," was released on June 26th. The song was influenced by an artist's uniqueness in the music industry. "Beatnik Trip" ad campaign blasted earlier in the summer.

Wigmore unveiled the promotional single "Cabrona" on November 16th, alongside the announcement that her fourth album was titled Ivory. Even though none of the songs were written before his birth, the album was released in April 2018.

In addition, Gin has worked with Air New Zealand on "Where to Next" ads; her hit single, "Under My Skin" for "Nothing to Hide"; and, most recently, her version of "My Little Corner of the World" flight safety film in 2017.
