Takeaway worker, 42, who lived above a Chinese restaurant before using £2bn of Bitcoin to rent a six-bed £17,000-a-month house in London faces jail over money laundering arrangement

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 20, 2024
A takeaway worker who used £2 billion to buy houses and jewelry is facing a money laundering lawsuit. Jian Wen, a resident of Leeds, rented a £17,000-a-month house in north London as part of the criminal racket that turned cryptocurrency into money. The 42-year-old, who posed as an employee of a multinational jewelry company, moved her son to the United Kingdom and sent him to private school as part of the scheme in 2017. The Bitcoin was later confiscated by the authorities, triggering the largest ever capture of its kind, with authorities claiming there are no legitimate reasons for how it was obtained and pledging it to an investment fraud in China. At Southwark Crown Court, Wen was found guilty of one count of joining or becoming concerned about a money laundering scheme. A second suspect is suspected of complicity in the robbery, but they are still on the loose.
