Gil Kenan Career

The first public screening of The Lark caught the attention of Jordan Bealmear, who was an assistant at Creative Artists Agency. The agency sent hundreds of copies of Kenan's short in order to interest parties in the film industry and after a few months of interviews, Robert Zemeckis offered Kenan the director's chair for his first feature, Monster House (2006). Executive produced by Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, but lost to Happy Feet.

Kenan followed Monster House with City of Ember, a post-apocalyptic science fiction adventure film based on Jeanne Duprau's 2003 novel of the same name. Produced by Tom Hanks, it was released in October 2008 to mixed reviews and poor box office results. Kenan's next film, Poltergeist, a remake of the 1982 Tobe Hooper film of the same name, was released in May 2015. In July of that same year, Kenan signed on to direct and co-write a film adaptation of the popular video game series Five Nights at Freddy's by Scott Cawthon, but later withdrew from the project. In January 2019, it was announced that Kenan will co-write a script along with Jason Reitman for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which released in 2021. After the film's success, he and Reitman inked an overall deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to develop more projects.

Willem Dafoe, an Oscar-nominated actor, is among the cast of the forthcoming SNL 1975 origin film starring Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard and model Kaia Gerber. According to Deadline, Dafoe will be playing late David Tebet, who served as the vice president of talent relations for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), when SNL first launched. Jason Reitman, who co-wrote with Gil Kenan on a screenplay, is directing the film, which tells the true tale of the lead up to the first Saturday Night Live episode.

The original was a hit, but this remake is as shapeless as a ghost, writes BRIAN VINER

Almost 40 years have passed since the original Ghostbusters arrived in the United Kingdom, and for those of us who recall seeing it back in December 1984, it was somewhat surprising. To make matters worse, I rewatched it recently, and it may have aged well beyond what we had expected. It was also a very popular film. It got Hollywood excited by the comedic potential of special effects, but society, albeit mainly in America, started to believe that the suffix 'busters' refers to everything.
