Gilbert C. Gerard (born January 23, 1943) is an American actor best known for his role as Captain William "Buck" Rogers in the 1979–81 television series Buck Rogers in the 25th century.

In 1960, he attended Maryknoll Seminary in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and appeared in an all-male production of The Music Man. He graduated from Little Rock Catholic High School for Boys and later attended the University of Central Arkansas but dropped out before graduation/ graduation.

Personal life

Gerard had been married and divorced four times by the 1980s by the 1980s. His first marriage, which took place in the 1960s, was to a secretary in Arkansas' home state. His second marriage to a bank executive was also troubling, although it lasted (on and off) for seven years before heading to New York to pursue his acting ambitions. He married model/actress Connie Sellecca in 1979 after moving to Los Angeles in the late 1970s. Gilbert Vincent Gerard, also known as "Gib," was born in 1981. Following the demise of Gerard's show Buck Rogers in the 25th century and his growing use of cocaine, alcohol, and overeating, his seven-year marriage began to disintegrate. Following a bitter custody battle that gave Sellecca sole custody of their son, the marriage was officially ended in 1987. Gerard married interior designer Bobi Leonard in the same year, but the marriage was short lived and then officially ended in 1989.

Gerard has opened up about his battle with heroin use. Despite being addicted to cocaine and alcohol following his expulsion from Sellecca in the mid 1980s, his compulsive eating habits soared and he'd find himself eating unhealthy portions of junk food. By 1988, he weighed 300 lb (136 kg) and started a self-help program for his depression, though he said that his weight problem had cost him work opportunities in the area of a million dollars.
