Gerran Lyn Howell (born 25 February 1991) is a Welsh actor, producer, and writer of short films best known for his role in Young Dracula, a CBBC television series that first aired in 2006.
Early life
Howell was born in Barry, Wales. He attended Barry Comprehensive School (an all-boys secondary school with a mixed sixth form). He began working at an ATSLI improvisation workshop in Cardiff at a young age and then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He appeared in a short film by Ellis Watts and in a short film warning of the dangers of swimming in Welsh Reservoirs.
Career
As they attempt to live in a small, rural Welsh town after being moved there from Transylvania, 13-year-old Vlad and his family, who happen to be vampires, revolve around 13-year-old Vlad and his family. In 2006-2008, the first two series were broadcast. In 2011,-2012, Gerran played a 17-year-old Vlad, which he now has complete vampire powers that he must learn to control. In early 2014, the fifth and concluding sequence was shown.
Gerran, as well as Young Dracula's Letty Butler, were involved in the Bake a Difference Appeal on Blue Peter, and he shot some behind the scenes footage of Young Dracula. During a brief behind the scenes at a Young Dracula sketch, he appeared on Inside Out North West. Gerran was also interviewed by Letty Butler about the show, and he gave a short tutorial in character as Vlad on how to spot a vampire.
In January 2012, Gerran's character 'Vlad' in Young Dracula was voted in the SFX vampire poll, ranked 17th in the top 50 vampires.
Gerran has appeared in a few short films and television shows, including in Casualty's "Niall Andrews" and "Rory Brothwick." "Ryan" is a version of "Any Girls episode 2 as well as "Ryan."
In 2011, he appeared as "Ernesto" in an episode of the CBBC's "The Sparticle Mystery, and later in series 2 (which aired in February 2013). He has also appeared in episode 3 of The Sparticle Mystery (which aired in January 2014). Gerran appeared in Casualty in January 2012 as a new character alongside actor Billy Boyd.
During 2012, he appeared on CBBC's Hacker Time and 12 Again, co-starring Young Dracula co-star Clare Thomas.
He has also produced voice-overs for radio advertisements and video games in addition to his on-screen work.
Howell appeared in Catch-22 as Kid Sampson in 2019.
