On Wednesday, Nekia Doddd arrived at ICON Park to watch the FreeFall ride demolish after her son Tyre Sampson died after falling off the ride in March 2022. After Tyre's family sued in April, her attorneys announced that she, the park, and the ride company had reached an undisclosed deal. ICON Park said in a tweet that they'agreed with the owner's decision to dismantle the ride, and our hearts are with the family...' Sherson had been traveling with his family on March 24 when he hopped on the ride, despite telling his friends that he didn't know if he'd'make it down.' Sampson's body can be seen in a shocking and graphic video, falling to the ground. Sampson had landed face down but wasn't responsive, and he seemed to have broken his arms and legs, according to a 911 call. Sampson died as a result of blunt force injury, according to an autopsy later, and his death was classified as a 'accident.'

When Tyre Sampson, 14, (right) was banned from the 430-pound weight limit at the ICON Park in March 2022, he was almost 100 pounds over the ride's 287-pound weight limit. On what would have been his 15th birthday, he has backed a namesake bill to improve rider safety. In the next legislative session, state Senator Geraldine Thompson (left) also announced that she would introduce the 'Tyre Sampson Act' to raise rider safety on amusement rides. When he arrived from St. Louis Missouri on spring break, the 6-foot five inches football player was turned away from other rides due to his 383-pound weight. According to a guide published by the ride's manufacturer, Funtime Thrill Rides, the maximum weight allowance for Orlando FreeFall is 130 kilograms or 286 pounds.
