George Jung Life

George Jacob Jung (born August 6, 1942), also known as Boston George and El Americano, is an American former drug dealer and smuggler who was a central figure in the cocaine trade in the United States in the 1970s and 1980s.

Jung was a member of the Medelln Cartel, which was responsible for up to 85% of the cocaine traffic into the United States.

On a large scale, he specialized in cocaine smuggling from Colombia.

In the biopic Blow (2001), starring Johnny Depp, his life was told.

Jung was released from jail on June 2, 2014 after almost 20 years in prison for drug-smuggling.

Jung was jailed in Placer County Jail for about a month for breaching his parole on December 6, 2016.

He was arrested while giving a speech in San Diego.

Early life

George Jung was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on August 6, 1942, to Frederick Jung, who owned a small business, and Ermine O'Neill Jung. Jung was a popular football player and was referred to as "a natural king" by his peers, but an undercover police officer was charged with solicitation of prostitutes. Jung briefly attended the University of Southern Mississippi, but then dropped out after graduating in 1961 from Weymouth High School. Jung began recreationally using marijuana and sold a portion of what he had bought to break even.

Jung realized the enormous profit potential represented by smuggling the cannabis he purchased in California back to New England in 1967 after meeting with a childhood friend. On flights, Jung had his stewardes' girlfriend carry the medications in her suitcases. He widened his operation to flying the drugs in from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, using planes stolen from private airports on Cape Cod and professional pilots in search of higher returns. Jung and his associates were reportedly making $250,000 a month (equivalent to over $1.7 million in 2021 dollars, adjusted for inflation). This happened in 1974, when Jung was arrested in Chicago for smuggling 660 pounds (300 kg) of marijuana. He had been hanging out at the Playboy Club, where he was set to meet a person who would pick up the marijuana. The connection was arrested for heroin smuggling, but he told the authorities that Jung was sentenced to receive a reduced sentence. Jung was sent to the Federal Correctional Institution, Danbury, after arguing with the judge about the motives of sending a man to prison "for running an imaginary line with a bunch of plants."
