Geoffrey Kondogbia Career

Club career

Kondogbia was born in Nemours, Seine-et-Marne of Central African descent, and joined Lens' youth programme at the age of 11. He signed his first professional contract on April 11, 2010, pledging a four-year contract. On November 21, he made his Ligue 1 debut on Saturday, against Olympique Lyonnais as a late replacement.

After the Sang et Or's demise, Kondogbia spent the 2011–12 season in Ligue 2 after the Sang et Or's demise. On April 13, 2012, he scored his first official goal for the team, netting the opener in a 3–0 victory at Tours FC.

Kondogbia signed with Spanish club Sevilla FC for an undisclosed fee, estimated to be in the region of €3 million. In the 82nd minute of Real Madrid's 1–0 loss at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, he first appeared in La Liga on September 15, replacing goalscorer Piotr Trochowski. On January 28, 2013, he scored his first goal for the Andalusians, after his side won by a landslide against Granada CF.

Kondogbia lost by 3–4 aggregate in Sevilla's semi-final second leg tie against eventual winners Atlético Madrid on February 27th.

Kondogbia returned to the French top division on August 31, 2013, after signing a five-year deal with newly promoted AS Monaco FC worth a reported €20 million. In his first season, he played in 26 games and one goal, helping the team finish second and return to the UEFA Champions League after one decade.

Kondogbia defeated Arsenal in the Champions League round-of-16's first leg on February 25, 2015, beating them 3–1.

Inter Milan reported on June 22, 2015 that they had signed Kondogbia on a five-year contract for an initial fee of €31 million, subject to a medical, beating a city rival A.C. Milan's reported €40 million bid. On November 8, he scored his first goal for his new team, but only away against Torino FC. On February 14th of the following year, he was suspended from ACF Fiorentina for sarcastically applauding the referee; instead, he was banned for two games.

Kondogbia's total cost of the Serie A club, according to the club's report, was €40.501 million in June 2016.

Valencia CF announced on August 21 that they had reached an agreement with Internazionale for Kondogbia's loan until June 30, 2018, with the option to make the deal permanent. The loan was part of a loan swap, with Joo Cancelo going in the wrong direction. He scored on his debut six days later, playing the full 90 minutes and contributing to a 2–2 draw against Real Madrid.

Valencia redeemed Kondogbia's buyout guarantee on May 24, 2018 after the player agreed to a four-year contract.

Kondogbia joined Atlético Madrid on a four-year deal on November 3, 2020. After Arsenal had met the release clause of Thomas Partey on deadline day, the club was granted an exception to keep him out of the transfer window.

International career

Kondogbia was selected to the French squad for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored the first goal in the country's first group match against Ghana on June 21. He was named man of the match by several outlets for his all-around efforts. In the round-of-16, he netted for the second time in the tournament against hosts Turkey, resulting in a 4–1 win.

Kondogbia made his senior debut against Belgium on August 14, 2013, playing 63 minutes in a 0–0 friendly draw away from Belgium.

Kondogbia was never cap-tied and was therefore unqualified to represent the Central African Republic, which he obtained through his parents. In a 4–0 away loss to the Ivory Coast in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, he received a call on August 31, 2018 and made his debut on October 12th, starting and serving as captain in a 4–0 away loss. In a 2–2 draw against Rwanda on November 18, he scored an added-time equalizer.

Marseille has sluggishly questioned UEFA over Michael Oliver's officiating after losing an agonising Champions League defeat to Panathinaikos

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 17, 2023
Marseille has lodged a lawsuit against UEFA concerning the standard of officiating in their Champions League qualifying loss to Panathinaikos. Marseille faced the Super League side in the Champions League play-off after qualifying rounds of the competition last season for a third-place finish in Ligue 1's third-place finish. However, Les Olympiens' European campaign would get off to a rocky start in Greece, with Geoffrey Kondogbia warned in the first minute before being dismissed after the interval for a second bookable offence.
