TV stars priced out of their own gigs: Jason Manford and Gail Porter lead backlash as cost of cheapest hotel rooms in Edinburgh during Fringe Festival hit more than £1,000-a-week - leaving lesser known comics unable to perform

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 10, 2024
Television presenter and actress Gail Porter has said she is unable to perform at this year's festival because of the 'soaring costs of B&Bs' in her home town. Meanwhile comedian and presenter Jason Manford branded the price of accommodation in Edinburgh an 'absolute joke', admitting that he will be making a financial loss. Edinburgh Fringe, which takes place from August 2-26, is in its 77th year with over 1,600 shows confirmed. MailOnline analysis has found that the cheapest hotel room for one adult between August 2-9 via Booking.com is Edinburgh 37, where performers and visitors can expect to pay £1,115 for a week - £159 per night.

After the venue and accommodation prices soaret, Gail Porter takes aim at Edinburgh Fringe Festival chiefs, saying she will not be performing this year

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 8, 2024
Gail Porter claims she will be unable to attend the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year because it is too costly. The television presenter and actress, 53, has hosted a number of sold-out stand-out comedy shows at the festival, but this year, she claims she has been 'priced out.' Venues can cost up to £10,000 a week, and performers must also pay for Fringe registration fees, ticket sale and marketing, equipment hire and transportation, public liability insurance, and accommodation for themselves.

After the princess was filmed in a casual outdoor setting so beloved of other royals through the years, Kate Middleton's use of a "simple wooden bench" in a emotional cancer video was "a scene that every family could identify with," an expert says

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 23, 2024
The Princess of Wales' use of an outside setting and bench in her emotional cancer film was 'a scene that any family could identify with,' royal biographer Phil Dampier told MailOnline. Catherine shared in a touching video how she is recovering from 'preventive' chemotherapy after her latest illness. The Princess sparked the world with her shocking news while the sun shone on a Spring day, while sitting on a bench outside in Windsor. It came after weeks of rumors over her wellbeing and whereabouts after scheduled abdominal surgery in January.
