Frank Andrew Lovejoy Jr. (March 28, 1912 – October 2, 1962) was an American actor who appeared on radio, film, and television.
He is perhaps best remembered for his role in The Hitch-Hiker and for his role in the radio drama Night Beat.
Early life
He was born in Bronx, New York, but he grew up in New Jersey. Frank Andrew Lovejoy, Sr., was a Maine furniture salesman. Nora, his mother, was born in Massachusetts to Irish immigrant parents.
Personal life
Lovejoy was first married to Frances Williams, but the pair divorced in the late 1930s. Lovejoy married actress Joan Banks in 1940, with whom he had a son and a daughter. Lovejoy died of a heart attack in his sleep at his apartment in New York City on October 2, 1962. At the time, he and Joan were performing together in a Gore Vidal's production The Best Man of New Jersey.
