Francesca Annis Life

Francesca Annis (born 14 May 1945) is an English actress.

She is best known for her television appearances in Reckless (1998), Wives and Daughters (1999), Deceit (2000), and Cranford (2007).

She was named for the Best Actress for the ITV series Lillie, a six-time BAFTA TV Award nominee.

Krull (1983), Dune (1984), The Debt Collector (1999) and The Libertine (2004) were among her film appearances.

Early life and education

Annis was born in Kensington, London, in 1945, to a British father, Lester William Annis (1914–2001) and Mariquita (Mara) Purcell (1913–2009). Both actors and Mara were regular actors and Mara a sometime singer. Mara was born in a wealthy Brazilian family. When Francesca was a year old, the Annises immigrated to Brazil and spent six years there, returning to England when she was seven years old. In recollecting her years in Brazil, she recalled her parents' running "a nightclub on Copacabana beach" and her mother Mara "performing as a blues singer."

Annis was educated at a convent academy and trained as a ballet dancer in her first years, with Russian dancer training at the Corona Stage Academy.

Personal life

Annis was in a friendship with photographer Patrick Wiseman that began in 1974, raising three children, Charlotte, Taran, and Andreas. Annis began working with Hamlet co-star Ralph Fiennes in 1995, bringing an end to her 23-year association with Wiseman in 1997; Fiennes then divorced Alex Kingston, his wife of four years. Annis is said to have "apologised to Wiseman" for their participation in the sport. Annis and Fiennes announced their separation on February 7, 2006, after 11 years together, in a parting described as "acrimonious" after rumors that he had an affair with Romanian singer Cornelia Crisan.

Annis, who was 64 years old when she talked to Tim Auld of The Telegraph in 2009, described herself as one who tends to "forget the bad stuff" because "I don't dwell on them." "I think you should have a big open canvas," she said as she contemplated her future, adding that "I think you live a fuller life" and that "having someone else's input on something – a book, a meal, your children, a walk – is much better" and that "I think it's better to be with someone else than alone." I am a glass-half full person. You know something will turn up, and whoever it is, it will be fine."
