Blige and Queen Latifah in addition to dancing. He made his stand-up comedy debut and then moved to acting in 1989's Juice, his first film appearance. Before escaping to Los Angeles in 1995 to concentrate on acting, Alexander then appeared on episodes of Sister, Sister, and The Cosby Mysteries. In 1996, he landed a starring role in Outer Space's second short-lived sitcom Homeboys. The following year, the series was critically criticized and cancelled. Alexander appeared in yet another short-lived film, the Steven Bochco-created Total Security later this year. Alexander guest appeared on Brooklyn South and The Parkers, as well as roles in other films, including the 1998 direct-to-video films Backroom Bodega Boyz and She's All That (1999).
Alexander appeared in Maya Wilkes' husband Darnell during the first season of UPN sitcom Girlfriends from 2000 to 2001. On the UPN sitcom One on One, a series he created and produced, he left Girlfriends to appear as single father Mark "Flex" Washington. Alexander was nominated for three NAACP Image Awards and two BET Comedies for his work on the series.
