Flavia Pennetta (Italian pronunciation: [flavja pennetta]; born 25 February 1982) is an Italian professional tennis player. On August 17, 2009, she became Italy's first top-ten female singles player and the first Italian to be ranked world No. 1. On the 28th of February 2011, there were 1 in doubles. She is a big winner, having won the 2011 Australian Open women's doubles championship with Gisela Dulko and the 2015 US Open singles title over childhood friend Roberta Vinci in the first all-Italian major final.

Pennetta also won ten other WTA singles titles, including the 2014 Indian Wells Open, in which she defeated the top two seeds in the top division. She was also a mainstay in the Fed Cup team competition, assisting Italy in winning four titles in 2006, 2009, 2010, and 2013. Her other achievements in doubles include winning the 2010 WTA Finals and finishing runner-up at the 2005 and 2014 US Opens, as well as Elena Dementieva and Martina Hingis.

Pennetta, who won the 2015 US Open, has announced that she would retire at the end of the season and would compete in her last tournament at her WTA Finals singles debut. She beat eventual champion Agnieszka Radwa in the round-robin stage and emerged with a top-ten singles ranking.

Flavia Pennetta was born in Brindisi to Oronzo and Concetta Pennetta. She has an older sister. Monica Seles has been introduced to tennis at the age of five and has cited Monica Seles as her tennis hero. Carlos Moyá was dated by Pennetta before. In her book Dritto al cuore, she chronicled the pair's tragic breakup in 2007.

In early 2014, Pennetta began dating compatriot ATP tennis player Fabio Fognini. Pennetta and Fognini married in Ostuni in June 2016 and became engaged in 2015. In 2017, Pennetta gave birth to a baby boy. Their second child was born in 2019 and a daughter was born in 2021.

Pennetta's father introduced her to tennis at the age of five. She defeated the 1999 French Open in girls' doubles with fellow Italian Roberta Vinci at the age of 17.

Pennetta debuted on the ITF Women's Circuit in 1997. In the second round of her first qualifying tournament for a WTA Tour main draw, Internazionali Femminili di Palermo, she failed the following year. On the ITF Circuit, Pennetta won two singles and two doubles titles in 1999. In 2000, she was disqualified in her multiple attempts to qualify for WTA Tour main draws. She limited her participation in the ITF Circuit the following year.

She played in her first WTA Tour main-draw match at the Cellular South Cup in 2002, when she lost in the first round. She also failed in the first round of the Idea Prokom Open in Palermo, but she advanced to the second round of the Idea Prokom Open in Sopot. She won the doubles title with her partner Kristina Mladenovic, defeating Samantha Stosur and Zhang Shuai in the final.

Having defeated Angelique Kerber in the fourth round, Pennetta, the 28th seed, progressed to the quarterfinals at Australian Open. She lost to Li Na, who went on to win the tournament. In Doha, Pennetta was defeated by Hsieh Su-wei in the first round. She reached the main draw in Dubai and then defeated Kaia Kanepi and 2nd seed Agnieszka Radwa before losing the match against Venus Williams in the quarterfinals.
