Filipe Machado Life

Filipe José Machado (13 March 1984-to-date) was a Brazilian footballer who last played for Chapecoense as a central defender. Machado was one of the victims when LaMia Airlines Flight 2933 crashed on November 28, 2016, killing him.

Club career

Rio Grande do Sul, Machado, a native of Gravata, made his Internacional debut as a youth but it came as a senior at Fluminense when on loan. He also played for Esportivo in the first half of the 2005 season, but on loan.

Machado left for Spanish side Pontevedra CF in Segunda División B on August 8, 2006. He was an undisputed starter when his team finished first in its division but failed to win promotion in the play-offs.

Machado joined the Portuguese club U.D. in the summer of 2007. Leiria left for Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia after altercations with the club's manager. Machado played in 37 games for the club, scoring with two goals. During CSKA Sofia's first meeting of the 2007-08 A PFG season, he scored the winning goal against Levski Sofia in the Eternal Derby. He stayed with the club until August 2009, helping with the club's first-ever league title.

Machado, a free agent, and following a probation period, signed a 1+2-year deal with Salernitana in August 2009. He was released in January 2010 and appeared to have unpaid wages.

Machado switched teams and countries again ahead of the 2010-11 season, joining Azerbaijani club FC Inter Baku. In February 2011, he moved to Al Dhafra SCC, but he appeared rarely.

Machado returned to Brazil in the 2011 summer after joining Duque de Caxias. He served Resende and Guaratinguetá before heading overseas in September 2012 to Al-Fujairah SC.

Machado joined Macaé Esporte on January 2nd, 2014, supporting the club in its Campeonato Brasileiro Série C victory campaign.

He played for Iran Pro League side Saba Qom in the summer of 2015. He returned to his homeland on May 10th, signing for Chapecoense.

Machado became a first-choice on his arrival in Chape and scored his first goal against Atlético Paranaense on October 6, 2016. In his last match against Palmeiras, he was handed the captain armband.
