Felipe Calderón Life

Felipe de Jesa (born 19 August 1962) is a Mexican politician who served as the 56th President of Mexico from 1 December 2006 to 30 November 2012.

He was a member of the National Action Party (Partido Acción Nacional, PAN) for thirty years before he resigned from the party in November 2018. Calderón obtained two master's degrees and went on to serve within the PAN before becoming a key opposition group.

In Vicente Fox's cabinet, Calderón served as National President of the party, Federal Deputy, and Secretary of Energy.

He served in the cabinet of the previous government before he resigned to run for the Presidency and secured his party's nomination. He ran as the PAN candidate in the 2006 presidential election.

Calderón took a marginal advantage (less than 1% of the total votes) over PRD candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador after a tense campaign and a tumultuous election process.

Although López Obrador and the PRD opposed the results and called for a complete recount of the results, Calderón's triumph was announced months later by the Federal Electoral Tribunal on September 5, 2006.

Felipe Calderón Career

Political career

Calderón was president of the PAN's youth movement in his early twenties.

He was a local representative in the Legislative Assembly and, on two different occasions, in the federal Chamber of Deputies. He ran for the governorship of Michoacán in 1995 and served as national president of the PAN from 1996 to 1999. During his tenure, his party maintained control of 14 state capitals, but also faced a reduced presence in the federal Chamber of Deputies.

Soon after Vicente Fox took office as president, Calderón was appointed director of Banobras, a state-owned development bank. He was accused by political opponents of committing abuse, disputing use of certain legal procedures to finance property valued between three and five million Mexican pesos (between US$300,000 and $500,000); however, once political objections arose, he used other means to formalize his transaction.

He joined the presidential cabinet as Secretary of Energy, replacing Ernesto Martens. He left the post in May 2004 in protest of Vicente Fox's criticism of his presidential ambitions while supporting those of Santiago Creel.

Since dogs were seen roaming the town with body parts, Mexican authorities recovered 45 bags with human remains from a mass grave site

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 20, 2023
For the second time in a year, Mexican authorities have been led by a dog to a mass grave site where human remains were discovered. Since stray dogs were seen roaming around with human body parts, at least 45 bags containing human remains have been removed in recent days from shallow pits in Jalisco's western state. The findings were made possible by an advocacy group for the families of those people who were missing due to the fact that no police probes were launched because of a long holiday weekend.

Families whose loved ones vanished in Mexico put T-shirts bearing their loved ones faces on BARBIE dolls to try and raise awareness of their plight in hopes of donation from Mattel

Delia Quiroa, a Mexican activist, recalls her early childhood days when she would face her grandmother and dress up her Barbie dolls. Quiroa, a woman who died in 2014, thought Barbiemania was poised to conquer the world ahead of Greta Gerwig's comedy film on the iconic doll's premiere, decided to outfit the doll with a t-shirt containing a photograph of her brother, Roberto Quiroa, who vanished in 2014. The doll went on sale online for 500 Mexican pesos, about $29, to raise funds for a chapter of the Searching Mothers Union in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas.

Mexico's ex-top security official found guilty of drug trafficking and taking millions from cartel

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 21, 2023
Genaro Garcia Luna, 54, has been found guilty of taking millions of bribes from the corportized crime syndicates he had vowed to destroy, including El Chapo. Allegations surrounding the former intelligence chief had reportedly been swirling long before his detention in the United States in December 2019. The decision throws a body blow to the cartel network in Mexico and the United States, as it revealed how the man who was charged with rooting out the illicit drug trade had been working with criminals for years.
