Club career

Piovaccari was born in Gallarate, and made his debuts while on loan at Castellettese's Serie D side. He joined Internazionale in the summer of 2003, being assigned to the Primavera squad.

Piovaccari was loaned to Vittoria in 2004 and scored ten goals for the club in Serie C1. He was loaned to Treviso of Serie B in July 2005, but after the latter's promotion to Serie A due to Caso Genoa, he went to San Marino Calcio in the third level, but also in a provisional one.

Piovaccari, a second-tier banker, returned to Treviso, now in a co-ownership agreement. After Treviso's bankruptcy as a replacement for Pescara-bound Francesco Zizzari, the free agent signed a two-year contract with Lega Pro Prima Divisione side Ravenna in July 2009.

Piovaccari scored in his debut for the club on August 3, 2009, netting the winner of a 3–2 victory over Giulianova in the Coppa Italia's season. As the Giallorossi barely escaped relegation, he was the team top-scoer of the season, scoring 14 goals and appearing in 30 matches in the league.

On August 31, 2010, Piovaccari moved to Cittadella, which was also in the second level, while Paolo Rossi went in the opposite direction. For the second year in a row (Riccardo Meccanovich in 2010 and Matteo Ardemagni in 2011), the club's flagship striker. Piovaccari was also the top goalcorer in the 2010-11 season, scoring 23 league goals.

Cittadella acquired Piovaccari's remaining registration rights for €880,000 on June 24, 2011.

Piovaccari moved to Sampdoria, Italy's second Serie B team, on July 8, 2011, earning €3.5 million in a four-year deal. After appearing sparingly, he moved to Brescia on January 31, 2012, on loan until June (along with Salvatore Foti) and with Juan Antonio and Andrea Magrassi moving in the opposite direction. Piovaccari also signed a new deal that ran until June 2016 during the 2012 financial year.

Piovaccari was loaned out again to Novara and then served another brief stint in Grosseto, spending regularly with the former.

Piovaccari was loaned to Steaua București, Romania, in a season-long contract in July 2013. In a 3–0 victory over Petrolul Ploiești, he made his debut in the Romanian Supercup, replacing Stefan Nikoli as a replacement for Stefan Nikoli.

Piovaccari scored his first goal for Steaua in a 2–1 victory over Vardar Skopje in the campaign's UEFA Champions League qualifiers on July 24th. He scored 16 goals in his career, including victories in Liga I and Romania's Supercup.

Piovaccari was loaned to Spanish side Eibar, who were recently promoted to La Liga on August 19th. On August 24, he made his club debut against Real Sociedad, replacing Ander Capa in the dying minutes of a 1–0 home win over Real Sociedad. Piovaccari was released by Sampdoria on July 1, 2015.

Piovaccari was unveiled on July 27th, 2015, as the marquee of Australian club Western Sydney Wanderers' 2015–16 A-League campaign. He was released by the club on May 5th, 2016.

Piovaccari signed a one-year deal with Spanish Segunda División Córdoba on August 17th. Piovaccari had joined Chinese club Zhejiang Yiteng on July 5, 2017, according to a newspaper on July 5, 2017.

Ternana, a Serie B club, reported the signing of Piovaccari on a 6-month contract, with the option to extend the contract to a further season. After agreeing to a one-year deal, Piovaccari returned to Córdoba on August 16th.

Piovaccari joined Rayo Vallecano's second division team on July 15 for a one-year deal.

He returned to Italy and joined Paganese in Serie C on August 26, 2021, by mutual consent. Piovaccari joined ACR Messina on the next day.
