Farid Mammadov (Azerbaijani: F?rid M?dov,born 30 August 1991 in Baku) is an Azerbaijani singer.
He performed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, representing Azerbaijan and finishing second after Denmark.
Early life and career
Mammadov was born in Baku to Asif Mammadov, a trained judoka and amateur rock musician, and Maya Mammadova, a silver-winning Soviet gymnast. Farid Mammadov earned his degree from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
Mammadov has performed in the Bulbul ensemble coached by Aybaniz Hashimova since childhood. He was a soloist in this group for a long time. Since age 8, he has been interested in soul and jazz, and cites Stevie Wonder as a key influence.
Mammadov is the author of Gal yanima (Come to Me), one of the songs on his Azerbaijani Eurovision selection tour.
He also practices Greco-Roman wrestling and capoeira, in addition to music.
