He was best known for his work in the thriller and horror genre, with such credits as Long Weekend, Patrick and Roadgames.

Career

De Roche was born in Lincoln, Maine, and he and his family immigrated to San Diego when he was six years old. When he was 22 years old in 1968, De Roche immigrated to Australia with his wife, and he began working as a journalist for the Queensland Health Education Council.

He aspired to be a writer and wrote a spec script for Division Four. He received a telegram urging him to write for the show nine months later. He was a staff writer at Crawford Productions mainly writing about police shows from 1970 to 1984, then he freelanced.

He established himself as Australia's top thriller writer in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
