Early life and education

Evanna Lynch was born on August 16th, 1991, in Termonfeckin, County Louth, Ireland, the niece of Marguerite and Donal Lynch. She has two elder sisters and one younger brother. Declan Kiberd, a renowned scholar of Irish literature and a professor at the University of Notre Dame, is Lynch's maternal uncle.

Lynch read and wrote fan fiction about the Harry Potter series for the first time at age 8, as well as sending letters to J. K. Rowling, a fan. She attended Termonfeckin National School until June 2004 and then transferred to Our Lady's College in Drogheda, where her father was the deputy principal. Lynch, a specialized youth in Glasnevin, researched speculative fiction and drama in 2008. She was tutored for at least three hours a day while on the Harry Potter set. Lynch obtained her Leaving Certificate in September 2010 at the Institute of Education.

Lynch suffered with an eating disorder at the age of 11. She was hospitalized several times for anorexia, and she said that the Harry Potter series was the only thing that could "pull her interest" from her illness. Lynch often wrote to Rowling, saying, "books and her kindness made me want to live again." She was hospitalized and her family consulted with the book's editor and the hospital before releasing the fifth book Order of the Phoenix in June 2003. Lynch was then allowed to leave for an hour and retrieve a signed copy of the novel.

Personal life

Lynch lives in London, United Kingdom. She was a resident of Los Angeles for five years. Lynch dated Harry Potter co-star and ChickPeeps co-host Robbie Jarvis for nine years. Lynch devout Catholic upbringing in a 2014 interview. "I stopped going to mass a few years ago mainly because I disagreed with the rules," she said. "I don't like anything that threatens you or makes you feel bad about yourself," he says, and growing up, I felt guilty about eating myself or doing something for fun."

Lynch has worked to promote healthy body confidence and body image in young girls as a result of her eating disorder anorexia nervosa. Lynch wrote an essay titled "Why the Body Bind is My Nightmare" in which she discusses her personal struggle with her appearance and how she was able to overcome this by using allusions related to the Harry Potter series.

Lynch's book The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting: A Memoir published in October 2021 by Headline in the United Kingdom and Ballantine Books in the United States. Career

Lynch auditioned in London in January 2006 for the role of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film in the series based on the books. She was cast at age 14 after auditioning against 15,000 other girls and a subsequent screen test with lead actor Daniel Radcliffe. "The others could play Luna," producer David Heyman said; Evanna Lynch is Luna." Lynch, though uninvolved in the casting process, was convinced that Lynch was the right choice for the role. She had never performed professionally before the Harry Potter series, so her exposure was limited to school plays. Lynch created and helped design a variety of fashion accessories for her character when filming Harry Potter.

In 2007, Lynch's first film appearance was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The film was a box office hit and received raves. Lynch's performance was lauded by critics; critics lauded her support cast; her New York Times called her appearance "spellbinding," and Jane Watkins of Country Life said she had "brought] an appealing sweetness to her character that was not so well developed in the book." In the film's tie-in video game, she also played the character. Lynch relived her role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009). The film was both technically and commercially successful. Rowling, a Harry Potter author, gave a speech at the premiere of Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in London, where she said there were seven main cast members, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Matthew Lewis, and Bonnie Wright. Rowling has maintained that Lynch had the most influence on how the respective characters were portrayed in the film series, and she told Charlie Rose in 2012 that she saw her in the final books. In the first season finale of Sky1's Sinbad's first season finale, Lynch went on to guest star Princess Alehna. She appeared in Monster Butler, a 2013 indie crime drama based on the life of British serial killer and robber Archibald Hall. Due to funding issues, the film was postponed. Lynch appeared in the Indie Teen Comedy G.B.F., which screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City in April 2013 and the Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco on June 30. The film received rave reviews.

Lynch was revealed in May 2013 that Lynch would appear in the British stage production of Houdini, which toured the United Kingdom from September to October 2013; Lynch played Bess Houdini, magician Harry Houdini's wife and assistant. Lynch appeared in Danny and the Human Zoo with Harry Potter co-star James and Oliver Phelps, which was released on BBC One in August 2015. In March 2019, Claudio Tolcachir wrote that she would appear in the British premiere of The Omission of the Family Coleman. It debuted at the Theatre Royal Bath in Bath and ran from March to April 2019. Lynch announced in July 2019 that she would appear in the vegan-themed short film You Feed Other Animals? It's late in the year. In 2019, Lynch lent her voice to Nickelodeon's Middle School Moguls and the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Lynch narrated the tale The Fountain of Fair Fortune from Rowling's audiobook version of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, an in-universe book of Wizarding World children's stories. In March 2020, Lumos' charity, Lumos, was released.

After co-hosting the BBC Sounds official companion podcast for Normal People in 2020, she went on to work with two of its stars, India Mullen (Peggy) and Éanna Hardwicke (Rob), on Personal Space, a radio play for RTÉ Radio 1 in 2021.
