She was hospitalized several times for anorexia, and she said that the Harry Potter series was the only thing that could "pull her interest" from her illness. Lynch often wrote to Rowling, saying, "books and her kindness made me want to live again." She was hospitalized and her family consulted with the book's editor and the hospital before releasing the fifth book Order of the Phoenix in June 2003. Lynch was then allowed to leave for an hour and retrieve a signed copy of the novel.

Evanna Lynch Career

Career

Lynch auditioned in London in January 2006 for the role of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film in the series based on the books. She was cast at age 14 after auditioning against 15,000 other girls and a subsequent screen test with lead actor Daniel Radcliffe. "The others could play Luna," producer David Heyman said; Evanna Lynch is Luna." Lynch, though uninvolved in the casting process, was convinced that Lynch was the right choice for the role. She had never performed professionally before the Harry Potter series, so her exposure was limited to school plays. Lynch created and helped design a variety of fashion accessories for her character when filming Harry Potter.

In 2007, Lynch's first film appearance was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The film was a box office hit and received raves. Lynch's performance was lauded by critics; critics lauded her support cast; her New York Times called her appearance "spellbinding," and Jane Watkins of Country Life said she had "brought] an appealing sweetness to her character that was not so well developed in the book." In the film's tie-in video game, she also played the character. Lynch relived her role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009). The film was both technically and commercially successful. Lynch "combats the movie's occasional sluggishness with a bit of sluggishness of her own," according to Wesley Morris of The Boston Globe, and Michael Dwyer of The Irish Times named her the best Irish actress of 2009 for her role on the film. She received her Scream Award and Young Artist Award nominations for her role in the film's tie-in video game, and she returned in the film's tie-in video game.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was released in 2010 to soaring praise and box office success. Lynch "is still gloriously lunar," the Boston Herald said, while Quickflix sluggishly criticized the film, noting that "the delightful Evanna Lynch is notably underutilized." She played a part in the film's tie-in video game once more. Lynch appeared in the role for the final time in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2: Part 2. The film received critical acclaim and went on to become the country's fifth highest-grossing film ever. Lynch "continues to be all-that-and-a-radish-earring as the ever-wafting Luna Lovegood," and Orlando Sentinel named her as "maybe" one of his "favorite players in the finale, according to the Seattle Times. She reprised her role in the film's tie-in video game once more. Luna Lovegood appeared in a script reading of the third Harry Potter parody musical, A Very Potter Senior Year, in August 2012 at Leakycon in Chicago, one of two of the others being A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel).

J. K. Rowling, a Harry Potter author, gave a speech at the premiere of Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in London, where she said there were seven main cast members, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Matthew Lewis, and Bonnie Wright. Rowling has maintained that Lynch had the most influence on how the respective characters were portrayed in the film series, and she told Charlie Rose in 2012 that she saw her in the final books. [She] got it in my head. "I even heard her voice when I was writing Luna."

In the first season finale of Sky1's Sinbad's first season finale, Lynch went on to guest star Princess Alehna. She appeared in Monster Butler, a 2013 indie crime drama based on the life of British serial killer and robber Archibald Hall. Due to funding issues, the film was postponed. Lynch appeared in the Indie Teen Comedy G.B.F., which screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City in April 2013 and the Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco on June 30. The film received rave reviews.

Lynch was revealed in May 2013 that Lynch would appear in the British stage production of Houdini, which toured the United Kingdom from September to October 2013; Lynch played Bess Houdini, magician Harry Houdini's wife and assistant. Lynch appeared in Danny and the Human Zoo with Harry Potter co-star James and Oliver Phelps, which was released on BBC One in August 2015. Lynch appeared in the Irish independent drama My Name Is Emily, written and directed Simon Fitzmaurice. Lynch attributed her success to "a lightness and ethereal quality" during her tenure as a "leading leader" with a subtlety that transcends her years. Lynch was nominated for Best Actress at the Irish Film and Drama Awards for her performance.

Lynch appeared in a revival of Enda Walsh's Disco Pigs at Trafalgar Theatre from July to August 2017. It was later moved to Off-Broadway at the Irish Repertory Theatre, where it appeared from January to March 2018. It was announced in November 2017 that she would star in the independent drama Indigo Valley, directed by Jaclyn Bethany, but she was forced to cancel due to scheduling conflicts, and Rosie Day was replaced with Rosie Day. Lynch appeared in a cameo role in Jason Mewes' directorial debut Madness in the Method (2019). Lynch was announced on September 12th, 2018 as one of ABC's Dancing with the Stars' season 27. Keo Motsepe, her professional partner, was her partner. Motsepe and Lynch made it to the show's final by finishing in third place.
