Evan Dimas Life

Evan Dimas Darmono (born 13 March 1995) is an Indonesian professional footballer who plays for Barito Putera and the Indonesian national team.

He is best known as a central midfielder, but he can also be used as an attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder, and a deep-lying playmaker.

Personal life

Evan Dimas was born in Surabaya, East Java province, to a poor family that once relied on his father, Condro Darmono, for his security guard duties. Evan is now the breadwinner of his extended family, making him one of the best compensated Indonesian footballers. He is a devout Muslim who celebrates every achievement by doing the Sujud. He is also enrolled as a student at Dr. Soetomo University, a public administration major.

Andrés Iniesta, a former Barcelona midfielder who demonstrated that diminutive players can also do well on the international stage, is his favorite player and inspiration. Persebaya Surabaya's idolized him in childhood and in the club's youth team's cut teeth. He signed his first professional deal in 2014, when Indonesian football was complicated by dualism of several clubs, including Persebaya's faction, which later became Bhayangkara F.C.

Evan Dimas Career

Club career

Evan Dimas played for soccer in Surabaya before entering Persebaya's youth team in 2010 at the age of 15. Evan became a regular member of various national youth teams in Persebaya. After being selected alongside other Indonesian young players to visit FC Barcelona's training grounds, he trained in Spain. He attended the now-defunct Nike Academy, a Nike Inc. initiative that attracted promising teenage footballers from around the world in 2012.

Evan Dimas was meant to join the club's senior team after years of being trained in the Persebaya system. However, Persebaya was embroiled in an internal conflict that arose from Indonesian football's 2011-2014 dualism. Several top-flight clubs split into two groups at the same time, one in the Indonesian Super League (ISL), the other in the short-lived Indonesian Premier League (LPI). Evan and six other teen participants joined Persebaya's ISL group in November 2014. This team in 2016 evolved into Bhayangkara F.C. after unification attempts in 2014-16 and a string of legal naming disputes. The Indonesian National Police is assisting the Indonesian National Police in obtaining financial assistance.

Brisbane Roar, an A-League club, expressed an interest in recruiting the midfielder on loan from Persebaya as soon as Evan joined in November 2014. However, a deal did not work out. Evan made his debut for Persebaya on April 5th, 2015, as a late replacement after months of turmoil in Indonesian football that forced ISL to begin its 2015 season in April. However, Evan's much-anticipated step into professional football was interrupted by a government attempt to block the ISL in May 2015. Because of that operation, FIFA has barred Indonesia from all officially sanctioned footballing for a year.

Persebaya started to send its teenage star to Spain, where Evan will train and trial with several clubs, including Segunda Division club UE Llagostera and the Spanish national team RCD Espanyol, during the FIFA ban. However, he was unable to convince clubs that they were unable to recruit him.

The Persebaya club he represented had lost in court disputes and later renamed itself into Bhayangkara F.C., when Evan Dimas returned to Indonesia in mid-2016. With the help of the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian National Police have been assisting. Evan was a member of the Bhayangkara team that competed in the 2016 Indonesia Soccer Championship A.A. Bhayangkara won the 2017 Liga 1 championship, the first trophy in his professional career, with Evan at the forefront of the team's midfield. This achievement culminated in invitations from clubs around the world.

Evan and Indonesian compatriot Ilham Armaiyn agreed to a one-year deal with Malaysia Super League club Selangor on a free transfer on December 2nd. When he was part of the starting lineup of a 2018 Malaysia Super League match against Kuala Lumpur F.A., he made his first-team debut for Selangor. Selangor defeated Selangor on February 4, 2018, which Selangor won on. In a 2–1 victory over PKNS at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Evan scored his first league goal in the 2018 Malaysia Super League for Selangor.

Evan had a fruitful year abroad with 20 appearances and two goals, but he wanted to return home at the end of the contract year.

Evan signed a one-year deal with Barito Putera, which was announced on December 26, 2018. On January 23, 2019, Evan made his Barito Putera debut against PSS Sleman in the first leg Round of 32.

Evan made his first Liga 1 appearance on May 20th, 2019 as a starter in a 1-1 draw with Persija Jakarta. In a 4–2 loss over Bhayangkara at the Patriot Stadium, Evan scored his first league goal in the 2019 Liga 1 for Barito Putera.

Although Evan played regularly and scored two goals in the 2019 Liga 1 season, he did not have the same results as his predecessor, losing the national championship in 2017. Barito finished in 13th position as the season came to an end and he was unable to hold Evan for another year.

Evan signed for Persija Jakarta, one of Indonesia's richest clubs, after weeks of rumors over which team would be interested him, Persuading him to play in the 2020 Liga 1.

Evan made his Persija debut in a 3–2 victory over Borneo on March 1, 2020 as a replacement for Sandi Sute in the 19th minute, and he scored his first goal for the team in the 86th minute. And then, the season came to an end after only three matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Evan only participated in two games, but he managed to score two goals, which was the same in his 20 appearances in Selangor and Barito respectively. Evan was eager to find a team that would showcase his talent.

That aspiration fell short due to the cancellation of the 2020 season and Persija's inability to hold Evan for another year. Evan decided to re-join former Bhayangkara after agreeing to a one-year deal in early 2021. Evan made his Bhayangkara debut in a 2–1 victory over Persiraja Banda Aceh on August 29th, 2021, as a substitute for Wahyu Subo in the 76th minute.

Evan signed for Arema on April 5, 2022. In a 0-3 loss against Borneo Samarinda on July 24, Segiri Stadium made his league debut in a 0-3 loss.

International career

Evan Dimas has been praised as a top talent in Indonesia since 2010. He captained the Indonesia U-17 and Indonesia U-19, the country's national youth teams from the age of 15, the 2013 AFF U-19 Youth Championship and the 2013 AFF U-19 Youth Championship. He scored five goals in the 2013 AFF U-19 Youth Championship and became the top scorer for Indonesia U-19 in this tournament. In the 2013 HKFA International Youth Invitational, he scored two goals.

After leading Indonesia's qualification process with three victories in three matches, including a 3–2 victory over defending champion South Korea U-19, in October 2013, he urged the Indonesia U-19 team to qualify for the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship, a qualification tournament for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In the qualifying round, he scored four goals, including a hattrick against South Korea U-19. He appeared in twelve unofficial matches, including the 2014 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy and one FIFA official match with the U-19 national team, in which he participated in all three games as preparations for the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship. After losing all three matches in the 2014 AFC U-19 Championships, he was unable to help Indonesia U-19 secure a spot in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Nonetheless, his stellar work in youth Garuda teams contributed to the flurry surrounding his decision on how to play professional football.

Evan made his senior debut with Indonesia on November 11, 2014 in an unofficial friendly against Timor Leste in which he scored. In a 2014 AFF Championship match, he made his international debut against Laos on November 28, 2014, scoring his first international goal and contributing to one other. In May 2021, he became the captain of the senior team. Despite being called to the Indonesia U-23 team on a 1–1 draw against Syria U-23 on February 10, 2015, he was still playing in a 1–1 draw against Syria U-23. He then trained with the Indonesia U-23 team in 2015 for their preparations for the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship qualification and the 2015 Southeast Asian Games. He appeared three times and scored one goal in the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship qualification, playing three times and scoring one goal. He appeared in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games five times, scoring four goals. He was a member of the Indonesia team that secured bronze in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

Evan was called into Indonesia's friendly match squad against Mauritius on September 11, 2018 by Danurwindo. Evan scored the winning goal for the national team's victory over Mauritius. In a friendly match against Vanuatu on June 15, he scored a brace on a 6–0 victory over a year later. He was also a member of the Indonesian team that took home silver in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines six months earlier. After a strong Vietnamese player tackling him in the 2019 final, he had to leave the game with a serious injury.
