Acting career
Cutkosky began doing photo ads when he was four years old as a way for his mother and him to spend time together. He was asked to audition for commercials and then films after a few ads. When he was seven years old, he landed his first film appearance as Carl with Vince Vaughn in the Christmas comedy Fred Claus (2007). Cutkosky played Barto in the mystical horror film The Unborn (2009), where he had the opportunity to work opposite Gary Oldman at the age of nine.
Cutkosky was chosen to play Carl Gallagher in the Showtime television series Shameless, the second youngest Gallagher sibling and most notable troublemaker, whose protagonists were played by Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy. Shameless lasted for 11 seasons before 2021, becoming the longest running original scripted series in Showtime history.
